I have the X5 as well, and wholeheartedly second the recommendation. The video feature is not all that useful, as the screen is small (1.8", 160*128px) and it only plays 15fps XviD, but it's fairly easy to encode video using mencoder. There's also a program called iriverter, an open source frontend for mencoder that will create videos for mobile players (iRiver, Creative, iAudio, etc). Also, there is an open source firmware being developed for the player (Rockbox), that I think may be adding a music database to it (normally you can only browse through the player's file tree). Altogether, it's a solid, feature-packed, and handy player.
Well, there is the investigation of the murder of Swedish PM Olof Palme that stopped short of actually investigating some suspicious people who happened to be members of the police force. Because, of course, it's impossible that the police would do something like that, you know, even if they are strongly politically opposed to the guy, and seen in strange places on the night of the murder.
That reminds me of something i thought of during the movie.. The connection that was made (and pointed out in the movie) between Rogue and Wolverine did not seem right to me. As I remember it, (Although, i know the X-men more from the cartoon of the early 90s than from the comics; I never had the money to buy comic books when I was into it) Jubilee came in as a teen and developed the relationship with Wolverine. Rogue came in as an adult; after Ms. Marvel and after being a bad guy. When Gambit came onto the team, he had a thing for Rougue, because they were both southern (and had accents). I don't know how accurate this is to the comic book, but i that's what i remember from the cartoon.
In Case you haven't noticed, hdtv sets are rather expensive. The average computer nowadays, however, is less half the price and has a monitor more than capable of displaying any format of hdtv you throw at it.. basically you could have a 19" hdtv/dvd player for around 2,000... and great game playing capabilities thrown in

The video cards/dvd decoding cards themselves do nothing more than aid in mpeg2 decoding (cpu-intensive, in case you didn't know). To watch a DVD movie, software that includes CSS decryption code must be used. No corporation that has liscenced CSS has developed software for Linux. This is why DVDs can not be played in linux without using a program like DeCSS to rip the movie. This is because most programs for linux are open source, and no one would actually pay for a linux dvd player. Not to mention that, at this point, linux is not a very viable multimedia platform. Hopefully this will not be true forever...
- May as well teach crystal healing in heart surgery if your going to allow RE into Science classes. -
I give it 5 years before someone in America tries this. 10 at the outside.
What, you mean... read?
No, sorry.

For the CLI-inclined:
mencoder [file-to-encode] -o [file-to-output] -oac mp3lame -lameopts mode=2:cbr:br=96:vol=0 -ovc lavc -vf scale=160:128 -ofps 14.985 -srate 44100
Jeez, slashdot doesn't even wait for the launch story to leave the front page before proclaiming it dead.
