Anyone boot up a Toshiba laptop lately? You get a quick splash screen stating "Toshiba In Touch With Tomorrow" Similarly, with IBM PC's - when you boot, you get a nice shiny IBM big blue logo. On your basic home PC - this is there as well. Gateway 2K has had little graphical pictures on boot for quite some time now, reminding you of where you bought your PC from. Even generic motherboards have advertised "Energy Star" compliance since 386 systems first came out.
It's the same concept, but now you'll get ads for Yahoo, Ebay, and wheredoyouwanttogotoday when your PC boots. Frankly, I don't really care - I don't watch the PC boot up much.. I fire it up, then go do something else while it gets happy. Most often I just let it run as well.
I'm curious to know, however - is this a permanent ad, or does it need to connect someplace once in a while to update the ads? That.. or do they send new PC users a floppy disk once in a while for a new round of ads? Should be interesting to see where this one goes...
From reading the reviews, it seems that the reviewers are trying to compare Ep1 to the previous (but later in time) movies. Mention is made about the Leigh-ness of the queen... why should there be Leigh-ness? She isn't Princess Leigh! The review also states that it was "all I expected, but not what I had hoped for". Personally, I'm going into the theater with an open mind, and as few expectations as possible (I expect the popcorn to be salty and the soda to be expensive.. etc.) Other than that - it's a new story, new characters, and I'm just going to watch it and enjoy.
Hmm.. I wear contacts.. does that mean I have to take them out in order to put this sucker on? Really tho.. I'm not quite comfy with a laserbeam shooting into/onto my eye.. just doesn't catch me as quite kosher.
I love all the graphical pictures of what it will look like.. trouble is - no photos! Makes me wonder if this is an idea in the making still, or if they've even bothered to build a prototype. Personally, I'll stick w/ rack mount.
According to an article released at 3:42p ET on CNN, they haven't been bought yet and haven't released any official info - so don't jump on the ship quite yet:-)
Back a few years, a friend of mine needed a bug fix update for VB - not even a major update. Not only was it *not* available to download, but in order for him to receive the update, he had to call in with a credit card and have it shipped, ultimately costing around $25. Seems to me.. you write a program, find a few bugs and fix those bugs.. shouldn't the patches be free? (Especially at the cost of VB!) I find it all ridiculious.. but not suprising.
Gotta agree with you there. I'm a big fan and love the movies and all.. but find it just not me to get dressed up as my favorite character to go see it. That's what RHPS is for }:>
There's that fine line between being a fan, and being a fanatic.
The reason IBM won't do it right away is probably because they still aren't a direct seller. So, even if they offered it, it would still take forever to get thru the vendors and resellers. They haven't figured out that direct selling is the way to go!
Well... selected a few things and went back to the home page. My right sidebar is now one big black space. Mebbie traffic is a touch heavy.. I'll try again later:-)
Everyone seems to be drooling and gettin' all woody over this. Sure, it sounds cool, and the games would be fun but sheesh.. go outside and get some fresh air once in a while:-)
Didn't you know? If you hook up your PIII to that cute little 110 acoustic coupler back there in the corner, you'd be suprised at how fast the Internet(tm) would be!:-)

I'm seeing the same over here... so it's not pilot error :-)
Nah.. he'll just write up a quick "My /." web portal that we can all use :-)
I like the customizations.. keep up the efforts!
Thx,
Matt

Hey, AC -

Well... selected a few things and went back to the home page. My right sidebar is now one big black space. Mebbie traffic is a touch heavy.. I'll try again later :-)
Nascar has car damage.. and those are Ford's, Chevy's, and Pontiac's.. more or less :-) Granted they aren't street models...
I think that the AC missed the gist of the post. Oh well... no loss :-)

When the cost comes down, the empeg car player would be worth considering. I'm not ready to set down $999/shipping quite yet though..
