So you are saying that letting the person(s) behind me in my group use my card will invalidate it? I've not heard of this happening to anybody.
This doesn't happen with the cards that have some amount of money on them, but there are cards that allow unlimited travel for some number of days instead of just storing a balance. These cards aren't supposed to be used twice at the same turnstile within a short amount of time, otherwise a group of people could share one card.
Kazza, Morpheous, Grokster.. They have non-infringing uses, too, but the RIAA hasn't given up yet on shutting them down. IIRC, there have only been preliminary judgements thus far, and we have lots of appeals left to watch. Why would they ignore Bittorrent?
The difference between Kazaa et al and BitTorrent is that BT doesn't make any efforts to be a community. It is a peer-to-peer protocol, but it's by no means a peer to peer network. There's no search or community features built into the protocol. If you want to "search" BitTorrent, you must rely on index sites and IRC, much like the way you need Google's index to search the Web. BT is a much closer cousin of HTTP and FTP than it is of Kazaa and Morpheus.
You can shut down servers providing illegal content, or sites linking to infringing BitTorrent URLs, but the people using it to get RedHat ISOs or other non-infringing things have nothing to worry about.
I remember reading about a Bussard ramjet, a proposal for possible future interstellar travel.
The idea is that since interstellar space is not empty, the craft will not have to carry all its own fuel, but can rather use huge magnetic coils (around 10^6 Tesla in strength) to gather its own fuel. It would have to carry enough on-board fuel to reach a certain threshold speed, at which point it begins moving quickly enough to pass through enough space in a given time to gather all the fuel it needs.
It would work by 'funneling' hydrogen, which is the most available (though by no means is it plentiful) gas in interstellar space, into a fusion reactor. Needless to say, this is a long way off, if it will happen at all, but it's a really nifty idea.
Some quick searching reveals a quick once-over here and a more mathematical treatment here.
The chip in the Palms is the same as the ones in early Macintoshes, if my memory serves me correctly, so Apple should be able to make a few interesting twists to the PalmOS for a branded handheld.
After looking at the picture of the MP3 watch, it looks like it's about the same size as your standard-issue headphone ear. Why not just slim down the LCD to show a 'track' number, enlarge the controls a bit, and slap it onto a pair of headphones? You don't have to worry about any wires or added costs of a wireless connection between player and listening device. The headphones could also be made foldable so you can put them in your pocket.
The research was carried out by accadys and Microsoft throughout Europe...
Actually the article says Microcost, not Microsoft.
Technically it's a greek mu (μ in html, slash won't let it go in directly) :P

That reminds me of cans of Perri-air in Spaceballs; President Skroob kept a stock of them since the air on his planet was running low.

Do you mean serial printers? LocalTalk is Apple's name for old-style networking through serial ports.
