Who is this one disgruntled mail clerk you talked to? Red Hat is centered around North Carolina BECAUSE THAT IS WHERE IT IS HQ'ed! What kind of flat statement is that? Red Hat Management is Bob Young, Matt Szulik and a bunch of YesMen. Yeah, let's see another clueless manager get a stock price up to >250 bucks/shr. Management will always be clueless to a geek because the geek only acknowledges those who can read obfuscated Perl and compile without menuconfig.

Every mid-to-large business who uses linux buys the box version, buys the support, and hires RHCEs to maintain the internal servers. Don't think they implement things just because they had some money to burn. Everything is strategic considering they are only a seven-year old company.

    • Coca-Cola (sugar water, what a powerful IP)
    • Heinz Ketchup (ditto, tomatoes are tomatoes)
    • Roto-Rooter (AAAA Plumbing should work fine, but...)
    • UPS (why NOT use the Postal Service or some alternative courier?)
    • Amazon.com (why not just buy from a physical store? Because they simply don't have the selection)
    • The United States of America (there ARE other countries in this world; why is the US the most powerful? Could it be our Intellectual Property?)

You know, it's not like RedHat is sitting around doing fuck all.

Dell, IBM, and NUMEROUS Fortune 500s suck on RedHat's TEAT to get the linux cred they so desperately want. What better way to spit in BillG.'s face than to get in bed with the enemy? Believe me, I live in the Triangle where RedHat is based. They're not exactly hurting. Ericsson, OTOH, just CLOSED DOWN their whole RTP prescence. So much for companies with physical product trumping a software "services" company.

When it all comes down to it, the jewelcase and box means shit in this day and age. Anyone trying to sell a linux distro that is not freely available will fall below the radar, PERIOD. And RedHat reaps the profit.

History and IQ tests do not show you, however, the environment that shapes and molds a mind making it counter-productive and even prohibitive to grasp abstract concepts and sometimes, analytical thinking itself. Give a kid a good meal and a sound roof over his head, and drill him with logic and puzzles instead of 24 hour tv and familial dysfunction, and he/she WILL most likely be an analytical thinker to score well on arbitrary tests of logic (i.e., "IQ") which have no comprehensive basis in scientific fact. Well, if that is the case, I suppose the Chinese are the most "biochemically superior" race because of their groundbreaking developments of just about every technological advancement in human history: Gunpowder, the abacus, world exploration (despite the painfully eurocentric revisionist history in high school textbooks), fine cloth, medicine, etc. Hurts a little more when we have to talk about the Chinese in such a congratulatory way, doesn't it, "brother"? Notice, of course, how you conveniently decide to use "man walking on the moon" as a great advancement in human development, but not getting into space in the first place as one (USSR). So, you're an isolationist as well as an inept apologist for your race. How quaint. Please kindly regard that, in no way shape or form, am I calling you racist or a Nazi. No that would be the pot calling the kettle honkey. Finally, there is a distinction between flightless bipeds, but that distinction on a microbiotic level is merely cosmetic in nature. The cell structure, blood, RH, and even DNA is mirror-images in most regards. The Human Genome project is about to wrap up their work mapping, so please, decode it and show me the plethora of difference that makes one race more adept at building a stealth bomber than another (btw, a black and an Asian American also co-developed the jet propulsion system so that Apollo could safely jettison back to earth. First off, someone moderate this whole ./ topic as -5 flamebait I've developed a real thick skin for this kind of nonsense, but I'll reply as calm as can be attainable given the material my brain has been marred with here from this, of course, Anonymous Coward. Okay, so there is no white history month. And, I suppose White settlers were taken here to the US in Chains and sold on auction blocks to serve a malevolent employer for no pay and no recourse of action against his oppressors. Furthermore, up until even the early 60s there was segregation of "coloreds" and whites. I don't care how long ago it was, but reparation comes manifold, and the "month" is just a token of the acknowledgement that, though the "other" does nothing to harm your precious fair-skinned hide, you've pretty much handed them a raw deal (and just as you obviously will not be swayed by any kind of rational thought contrary to your own severely pre-judged beliefs, I will not submit to any of your revisionist history, so don't give me any of your "historical accuracy" pablum). Secondly, if you want a stamp, petition the USPS, but I don't see how a "white heritage" stamp series will somehow uplift a race who has systematically enslaved and uprooted entire peoples. Who do you propose to be the first inductee? Nathan Bedford Forest? George Wallace?Your boy David Duke? Or perhaps Hitler is more up your alley? Those URLs do not preach anything but a divisionist society where our great nation is ghettoized based on arbitrary physical differences. That, simply put, is the most retarded crock of dog shit I've ever read in my life and are the rantings of a Self-HATING white apologist. Where is the pride if you can only project it to your OWN race? Unicentricity is so 50 years ago. Wake up, white man/woman/gutter trash, you've had your chance to shine in the sun (which oh so burns your fair skinned features), just face up to the fact that you will be eclipsed simply because nature, as a complex/chaos-embracing system of actions, NEEDS diversity in order to evolve. Sticking to an outmoded dogma only serves to hinder progress. Just continue to ignore me. Your corollary can easily be refuted (to the advantage of your primary argument) by the fact that new features, better graphics, and tighter realism will make these new games an order of magnitude larger than the piddly 90Mb we're seeing today (remember when we whined about 10/20MB demos just 3 years ago, when EVERYONE was on 56k or less at home). Either way, no matter how you slice it, the more bandwidth available, the more we, the proud, bleeding heart internet users, will take it all and pine for more. The games ain't gonna get any less complex and code-heavy. But, the price of games today is in the box, the flash, and the fat cofers of the publishing conglomerates. Take away most or all of that, and you're left with some great games at prices we'd all be stupid not to pay considering the time we'd be sitting downloading all that stuff. Biff text writing kids can d/l for hours a day, but professionals can't be bothered with that nonsense. Shooting the shit on ./ however is worth wasting some time on. >:^D
