This sounds like another case when one will end up pulling his hair out trying to figure out what the hell is going on behind his back. It might be good idea but MS better document this behaviour extensively or it will end up as another registry-style mystery.
I just got myself BeOS and.. well, as a workstation it rocks. I just have a question... Is there any way to change windows decoration on the Be desktop ? I don't really like default configuration ( I know I can move them around but what about exctending them to cover whole window ? )
We are quite far from being able to develop usable popular OS with a language that offers built-in garbage collector ( which right now would probably mean Java)
Shit. I have tried Debian couple a months ago and everything was pretty standard except fricking package managment software. Who the fuck designed it ??
I have tried to install one fricking package, spent almost hours messing around with dselect.. and that was it. I won't touch debian for a long time.
And how the hell one expects to use Linux for graphics related tasks ? No fricking GL drivers, XFree is slow like dog... Come on ! NT is much better suited right know for this kind of work.
Linux is fucking at least two times slower on the desktop.... The only sane choice right know is acceleratedX ( which is still not as fast as Win GUI but at least accetable)
Yeah, This GTK based junk software is really plentifull these days. Well, I should'n probably say junk as there are people who find some of it usefull but there is definately too much of this.

But, as I said, it might be good idea after all.
The problem is that Linux desktop is much more sluggish then the Mac one ( assuming the same hardware )
It might look cooler but is simply slower.

Could you explain what did you use Mac for and based on that response tell us what Linux offers that was not available on Mac ?

M$ stuff leaks no more ( and no less ) than anything else on the market.
...
It is not like M$ people are some sort of outcasts
who never seen or programmed for other operating systems. Some of them even have Unix background
Linux for games ??
..
You know, xbill is cool but after a while you probably would want to move on to something else
:-)
No , my ISP is using Solaris ... but I think the problem is that ./ is _not_ using something like Solaris. Don't you think ?
Yep. Slashdot never really was an shining example of stability and availability...
Amiga is dead.
I know. I had one.
:-)

The whole affair with GTK is a terrible mistake. Now we have "official GNU toolkit" that looks as it was designed in the early 90 ...
Shame.
Using C to create extendable GUI toolkit ??
Stupidity!
Qt is a pure pleasure to use. For example, it is so easy to create your own widgets, it's kinda scary ...
You are boring ..

Oh really ?

And how is that ? Any specifics ?

Dude, solaris comes with optional graphics installer ... what's wrong with that ??
Frame buffer ?
QT ( on Unix) works only with Xlib so here is your answer...
cause after midnight people start to puke all over place and things generally get rather ugly.
That's bullshit. Linux is not much better than NT.
It is better the way every Unix is better than NT.
That's a server side.
But if talk about workstation ( or should I say desktop) side then things are radicaly different.
Come on, have you ever used desktop apps on Linux ?
They crash, crash hard , much more often than anything on Windows.

Yep. I can't understand how one can vote for people whos only accoplishments are masive tax increases.
When you mention your personal opinion regarding OS do you mean server or workstation usage type?
Nope. Alpha or PPC will still need it's own binary.
Sure , I know you can do this on Solaris 6 ( intel)
