If network transparency is slowing X so much as you imply then , heck, this was terrible design decision to include feature that is used 5 % of the time and slows the whole thing even if you don't use it. Come on, it is nice to brag about X networking abilities but truly, how many people use it as compared to running X locally.
That's not it. At least not in my case. I am not talking about games - just simple GUI operations ( moving windows, resizing ) - stuff like that is slower.
I have Vodoo 3 and sadly, under Linux it is visibly slower than Windows running on the same box. In fact, on the other box I have G200 and it is slower too. Have anyone ever encountered graphics card that run faster under Linux than under Windows95 ? Is this driver issue or simply X is slower than Win GUI subsystem ?
I am not familiar with this application. If they only porting backend then it make sense. There is really not that much support for accelerated GL on the front end ( Vodoo and maybe one more... that's it )

I am tired of this bullshit. Of course Linux comunity thinks MCSE is a joke - just like most of them think NT is a joke and just about anything from MS is more-less a joke.
But you know what... nobody gives a shit about Linux community. Milions of people are using MS products every day and most of them would go insane if they Windows machine was replaced with Linux box. Hell, most people have a hard time understaning Windows , let alone something as abscure as Unix.
I came to US with 100 $ and almost no knowledge of English language. 7 years later I am making much more than average American does. Don't fucking tell me there are no ways for people to support themselves. If you want - you will make it !!! It is as simple as that.

Perhaps you are right. Letting stupid people get rid of themselfs. But as you know , it is completely unreasonable to expect this to happen and therefore we are stuck with supporting all the shit they manage to come up with.
I think their socialist tendencies do far more damage then good. That's the only reason I would like to see this organisation disapear. Simple arithmetic - we have tried that, didn't work, get rid of it.

(In fact one can easily use VNC and skip X networking altogether )
They did this to speed up GUI in 4.0 ( 3.5 sucked ) and they succeded ...
If you have problem with graphics subsystem on the server - make sure to run VGA and everything should be OK. VGA driver is rock stable.
