Vernor Vinge first mentions the Technological Singularity in the January 1983 issue in the First Word. I've got that one in a closet along with all the first 3 years except the first issue.
Where does "huntsman T. Boone Pickens" appear in the original article? I'm not saying he is or isn't a hunter but for accuracy is that phrase in the article? I can't seem to find it? Maybe I'm just blind or didn't see the right article.
I dont' know about you but there ain't much more scary than thousands of screaming 12 year old girls. They should throw the whole group in jail or messing with teenage hormones.
Fair enough but what exactly is in climate research that needs patenting? And yes there are a lot of universities making bank on climate research. If the researcher comes back and says "There's no issue with a warming planet." then what kind of funding will they get. It pays to have "Alarming data" and transparency doesn't let you have Alarming data.
But the data is in question and they work very hard to keep you from ever seeing it and how it's analyzed. That's what in these files. There attempts to keep analysis out. It's political because If we really are warming the planet we have to severely control human behavior. That's what political. The warming is seen as another way to control behavior. Tell you what you can and cant do tall you what you can and can't eat.
The primary issue is that most climate science has not truly been scrutinize and reviewed. I've been reading the files and it's very damming. It's almost as bad as cold fusion. For example. In note 1075403821.txt Timo Hmeranta states.
One other thing about the CC paper - just found another email - is that McKittrick says it is standard practice in Econometrics journals to give all the data and codes !! According to legal advice IPR overrides this.
So they are going to hide behind Intelectual Property Rights to keep their data from being reviewed!. Holy Fucking Shit! How can science do that and still remain respectable?
On the clock or not. This is misuse of the papers resources and authority in tracking the guy down and reporting him because Kurt Greenbaum is too much of a pussy, or maybe just doesn't like pussy, to deal with it.
And it seems to be getting worse. Important things don't seem to get through. Articles like this one get moded down by Mac Mac fan boys connecting to http://slashdot.org/recent and don't show up till a day or so after submission. Then the anti Mac Windows fan boys do the same when positive Apple things show up and etc etc...
This is purely antidotal but a colleague got sick and when to the doctor. The doctor, without testing, said he had H1N1. So is that the kind of data that's being used or is this coming from verified tests? Even if the doctors are telling the CDC it's verified who is checking that they actually did the tests?
So lets apply the logic all the way out. In this case Mr Governor can't censor blog postings on his own site and Boing Boing would have to repost all of Violet Blue's postings. http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/webscout/2008/06/violet-blue-scr.html OK fine it's not exactly the same but now you need to have government regulate the internet and we don't want that. Boing Boing does have a right to censor and so does everyone else.
9/10th of a second is only about 3/4th the distance from earth to the moon. I don't know for sure but I think that's a rather small difference and could be accounted for just by the size of the star that exploded. Our own sun is about 4 seconds across isn't it?
I love the Mini but I think it's overkill and maybe not robust enough for this. A Mini also has lots of GPU you likely will not need, older ones don't. The hard drive may also not be robust enough for continuous use. I use a Mini my self because it's what I know and I want the video capabilities but there are cheeper ways to go. The laptop route is a good one because you get automatic battery backup for power failures. Also the DC power input would be easier to wire into a solar power support system. It's also potentially more efficient to keep everything DC no need to for DC to AC inverters.
So we can sue Linden Labs for currency manipulation cause... oh wait the US does that all the time so I guess it's legal?

I suppose it isn't that simple. In any case if the platform becomes popular people with write the open free software, won't they?
http://wattsupwiththat.com/2009/12/12/sticky-for-smoking-gun-at-darwin-zero/ The link changed
Redundant? I did post this before the others
Posted at http://wattsupwiththat.com/2009/12/08/sticky-for-smoking-gun-at-darwin-zero/ Take a look. The real point is the need for openness and open critical review of the methods used.
OOH I dunt know. I think both are quite fantastic.
I dont' know about you but there ain't much more scary than thousands of screaming 12 year old girls. They should throw the whole group in jail or messing with teenage hormones.
Truly I'm confused. I thought Canadians had national health care? So is it the national system canceling her or some kind of supplemental plan?

In this article http://wattsupwiththat.com/2009/11/09/mcintyre-and-lindzen-to-appear-on-finnish-tv-documentary-transcript/ You can see how Keith Briffa refused to let anyone examine his data. The files that were released have email from Keith Briffa taking about keeping data secret.

None. We were hit by one about 10 meters across on October 8th but no one wants to put the story out for some reason. http://neo.jpl.nasa.gov/news/news165.html
And we know the whistleblowers don't have large investments in oil futures? Wow this creates a situation where you can't believe either side.
He was told it's too expensive and there is a backlog of testing anyway.

then we need to be able to smell anticipation for paradise, or would we just confuse that with a bunch of horny guys.

so it's OK then to put my passwords on post-its?
