Parent is correct. The big thing is get used to it. Ive grown up in the country so everything i do evolves around it. Ive always liked the cold, and snow. Ive seen temp of almost -100F (with wind-chill) and those are the temp i cant stand (your skin freezes in about a minute). Another thing is having plenty of clothes. Boots, insulated pants (bibs), heavy jacket, hat and gloves. when you have all of those, your not cold, you stay very comfortable.
The biggest reasons why i love it up here is there isnt many people. I live in a town that has a population of 1000, and so theres not much to worry about. Its fun after a big snow storm to play around in the middle of the streets with your 4wheel drive:). Another thing is hunting. Deer hunting is a big thing and also Ice fishing. You can go days on end out in a fish house with nothing more than chips for food (used as breading for the fish you catch) and beer:).
Ive lived in Florida for about 5 months, and i couldnt wait to get back to MN so i could play in the snow:)
1) im from MN so deer hunting is in the time of year when its cold.
2) I just bought ahouse with a jacuzzi that over looks a pound and risdge behind the house
3) Shooting deer while in a hottub and drinking beer is just awesome.... the only problem..
4) Where are the girls?
Im from Minnesota.. I have a hard enough time starting my truck at -30F because batteries really loose their CCA at that temp. electric would be cool.. first i have to stop drive trucks with 350CID engines that get 8MPG:)
I think this would be a great project for Hawaii to undertake. It seems like it would take something like this for it to catch on in the upper 48. But then again, I think by the time a grid system like that got worked out, we we have a viable way to use Hydrogen powered cars.
I read that as "Japanese copper thieves threaten US infrastructure"
I dont even know what to think.. maybe.. what do they do, walk down ditches pulling up telephone cables?
Ive heard of people stripping houses of all their copper pipes, but this is going kinda of far.
Mac has not always been 100% IBM-PC compatible, so thereofr IS NOT a PC (and in my mind, the MAC will always be non x86).. Im not much of a mac person, but can you run all x86 elf and posix binary on MAC?
Car analogy:
"There is something wrong with my engine."
"It starts but the tire is flat."
mechanic: "It needs air"
"Well the air conditioning works, why are my tires flat? Or does the 'air' need a refill?"
As someone who works on computers, I call them all PCs.. just cuz otherwise there are too many letters to pronounce.. com-pu-ter.. win-dows-x-p.. 'pee-see'.. ITs easy!
ha, your inlaws at least have some knowledge. With mine its,
"Can you show me ho to burn CDs on my harddrive at home?"
"Your computer"
"yea, thats what a harddrive is right?"

it needs to stop being a free service of the govt paid for by unfair taxation of people without children
Who paid for these peoples schooling when they were kids?
my dad's school consisted of a one room school house for 20 kids(4 families?) thats was tax payers money, other wise there was no education. these pople that bitch about paying for schools when they dont have kids, and yet somehow they got an education when they were young.
Public school are one of the best things our country have. they my not be the best in the world, but they give everyone an opportunity to succeed.
Maybe what the govt needs to do is invest in Fiber mains across the country in return lower prices for people. Maybe the best solution wouldnt be the govt maintaing the information, but the physical carrier. Living in northern MN, the schools up here have to piggy back off of the colleges (some 40 miles away). i know my highschool has a T1 that comes from BSU because the ISP around here wants too much for the public school to pay. Also, the ISP has a Fiber main, but none can tap it because its the only one.
I think it would be great for a few fiber splices to run from Minneapolis 300 miles north, and give us a change to have truely fast internet without the cost the ISP would want to charge.
The way this sounds to me is you would have two internets. Your private, and then free WIFI access to cities, and the eventually rural areas. The government would set up Canopy type wireless ontop of regular internet. Kind of how you can have Cable TV, but still get your locally broad casted TV
I have ran linux for about 5 years now, and ive stuck with one distro: Slackware
I have tried others (BSDs, gentoo, debian) And they all have cool features. I have found that slack seems to be the most versatile, and stable. Yea, it might suck to install apps (i compile the source myself, none of the slapt-get shit).
I think I will always use Slack just because you have the features that every other distro has.. Or maybe it doesnt try to cut out certain things, its a generic distro.

PC is a synonym for the X86 architecture, like when the first Personal Computer came out, which was the XT.
This is true. I use lynx (and links) alot on headless servers, or when they dont have X. Otherwise,
$ lynx www.google.com
"Xorg.conf"

I read somehwere that squirrels only find about 25% of the acorns they hide ...

But for some reason i cant find any Oak trees.. THERE ALL GONE!

While we are using car analogies:
If your car dies, just do what microsoft suggests, and close all of the windows. maybe the car will then restart?
until the cats start choosing to move in a direction to make open source stop sucking
I believe the only way cat can move is from beginning of the file to the end ...

I heard somewhere that within 2 years, the number of distros will exceed the number of linux users.
haha, yea im j/k
