  1. Re:So what's the big deal? on Investing In Lawsuits Beats the Street · · Score: 2, Informative

Jurily, you should learn more about our legal system. It is the product of 2000 years of the best legal minds of our civilization.

    1. You cannot abolish precedent. First, they are not made by "morons". Second, most precedent is recent. The courts have a heirarchy. Lower courts must follow upper courts, and the same court must follow its past decisions interpreting the same law before it.
    2. The legislature does hire competent attorneys to write the actual text of the laws, and they do aim for clarity and precision.
    3. All changes to statutes are incorporated into the text. However, not all situations are covered by the text, which is why we have judges to interpret the law to apply to specific situations. Not all specific situations are the same which is why it appears to be a patchwork of precedents. Courts can only interpret the law for the specific fact patterns that come before it.
    3. (sic) The text is easily accessible and searchable by anyone. See Findlaw.com.
    4. This is the purpose of Courts interpreting the law. For instance, does free speech apply to the internet? Under your rule, the answer would be "no", since there was no internet with the Constitution was written.
    5. Agreed.

  2. Why I don't go to paperless billing on How Long Should Companies Make E-Bills Available? · · Score: 1

The story is right. I tried doing paperless, but they just send me an email to view my bill online.

What they should do is the electronic form of paper: send me a copy of my bill by email. That way, I can save the file to my harddrive, just as I file my paper bills in a physical file.

Until they start doing that, I want a paper bill I can put in a file in the event of a future dispute.

Now if they could only get the Zune to sync with my Vista 64, I could actually use my Zune.

  4. Why I pay for XM on iPhones, FStream and the Death of Satellite Radio · · Score: 1

Why would anyone want to pay for proprietary hardware and a limited selection of a few hundred stations all controlled by one company?

    Is he talking about Apple?

XM generally has no ads, no DJ's and costs only $12 per month. The hardware, available from several manufacturers, cost me around $30 for a car unit that I can put in my house for a little extra. I can also listen to XM on my computer via their website. The reception and bitrate could improve; but overall, I do not listen to commercial radio in my car any more with all the commercials and yappy djs.

IPhone is about $500 for hardware and $30 - $60 for unlimited data. That is 10x as much for hardware and 2x as much monthly. For that, you get "unlimited" fly-by-night internet radio channels, if the 200 XM radio channels are not enough for you.

I listen to "Chill", the smooth electonica station pretty much all the time, as that is the type of music I like. I also listen to reggae, blues, or FOX news simulcast once and a while. I recommend it.

    Put the kool-aid down.

Payroll taxes go directly to Social Security and Medicare. In other words, they go to that taxpayers retirement and health care. Everybody pays them whether they use the services or not.

The link you provided says Social Security will run out of money in 30 years and will not be able to pay benefits to 25% of the recipients. That sounds like a train wreck to me.

Obama plans to take money from the "rich" and give to everyone else. To "everyone else" it appears free. However, the "rich" take the money they otherwise would pay to Obama and invest it in things like alternative energy and in innovative businesses that create jobs. Google? Started with VC money from the "rich". Get the point?

You're assuming past warming has been caused by CO2-induced global warming. That begs the question, where did this CO2 come from.

My other point is, scientists don't know what these mechanisms are, which means we don't understand the global warming cycle very well.

Standardize keyboard layouts so players don't have to customize their keys every time. On First person shooters every game has forward, backward, left, right, etc. Put these on the same keys every time.
