So if you wanted details that would only be noticeable in specifically instance and by people who get a rise out of picking out those detail, and where happy with only 2 hours, then sure Betamax was the way to go.

no. No it wasn't. As a child of the 60's I can say for certain that the 90's where the last great decade. Nothing through out all of history has change the world more then wide scale internet adoption.
how much cash is a licensor/distributor going to make from a DVD release of batman '66? Put them on netflix.
The internet make niches profitable.
"how much cash would it cost to hunt down the film reels (if they exist), tapes, whatevers?" since batman is currently being shown on TV, I can't imagine it's a big deal.
"how much would it cost to transfer the films to something good"
Comparing profitability of DVD v Net release? stupid.
The internet has a very, very long tail. DVD take up shelf space.
So on the net, you make a few dollars over a long period of time.
Here is the math: Sitting on the shelf negative dollars. Putting them on the internet get you some money. As long as it's makes money to offset storage cost, it's a gain.
It's not available on demand because the industry has some legacy contract issues. If some has an open royalty agreement, then showing it means paying those royalties.
While I don't think this is an issue for anything released in the last 5 years, stuff from an era where a TV show would gte played one, and then a few reruns, the contract can be more opened.
If it was just greed, then it would be available.
I mean, yeah, there is a bunch of men smoke Cigar and laughing how the could be making money, but it's more fun to laugh at people who want to pay for the content.
I have downloaded some pretty some pretty esoteric stuff from the 40s an 50's.
Never without many problems. So I can get pretty much anything off the net. Naturally, the older stuff isn't DVD quality. It's usually a recorded VHS from a TV broadcast.
Occasionally I find an excellent copy. I suspect someone in some archives is leaking them.
There job is the same as headlines: get people to read the article. I mean in the media, In civilized industries the summer give a brief overview of the content.
Of course this is the same thing that always happens when people compare MS it OS X.
One has a very specific hard ware upgrade path, as well as a tiny pathway tom get apps to the device, the other is a more dicerese platform, and ahd a very waide path to get apps. Some yeah, it crashes and has more problems...but it's the wrong comparison.
A good comparison doesn't Compare Apples to window, it compares a specific Apple PC with a specific Windows PC.
Same thing with smart device. You don't lump the iPhone against every other device running Android. You compare it against specific devices running android... preferably a similar device.
". We, as a society, have allowed at least two generations to grow up not planning for the future other than long term retirement. and why is that bad?
SO, you got lucky and got a mountain of money, good for you but you are an exception.
People like you are the problem. You have no clue what it's liek for most people, you can relax and not worry about your retirement. You seem to think everyone gets stock option, that all stock options will be good, and any problems someone has is their fault alone.
so, Fuck You.
"the key is to not adjust your lifestyle above where it needs to be and"
yes, we should, all live in mud huts, eat beetles and walk to work in dirty rags, because that's allow really need, right?
I ended up getting a bovernment job. The pay is less..40% less, but the benes are good and I work hours that allow me to have time for a life.
Plus I can talk about issues and solutiuon without worrying about insulting some management type.
The only other option is starting my own business; which I would do if I coulf afford health care.
And that's the issue. I bet that's the issue for many people are age. I know many start ups that can't hire people with families because they all want insurance.
Why companies aren't backing A government insurance program is beyond me. There Health insurance would drop, and it wouldn't be in issue for who you need to hire. Older people cause the companies overall insurance to go up. So even though at the moment of hiring it's the same, then next year it increase as your workforce ages.
One of many problems that go away with a government healthcare insurance program.
yes, yes it is. Bad programming can cost far more then that in time, maintenance, reliability and marketability.
So, are you releasing a piece of firmware that's going to a million pieces? writing a financial app? Interface rolling out on medical equipment? He makes chips. Running different version and optimization process alone can make it worth it. And that's not even going into skill to get what you need from management, and playing the game.
Um, you really have no clue about copyright, so shut up.
Yeah, DLT is awesome, and expensive. Far more expensive then bruning a new copy every 10 years.
"Writeable DVDs usually die in less than five years."
nope.
" but it's significantly more work to do it. "
wha? you mean push the button that copies content from my DVR to my Burner? yeah, real hard.
"Are you from the past?"

Yeah, but where is the scratches, popping and needle skip? Won't anyone think of the romanticized childhood!
Bull...Shit. SO tired of this crappy urban myth.
I HAD porn on BETA. Debbie Does Dallas, and one other whose name I can't remember. I assume there weren't only two titles.
Sony licensing costs, and tape length killed Beta in the consumer market.
It's that same Bullshit that people think porn drives innovation; which is patently false. It jumps on all technology, winners and losers.
If you aren't distributing, then tort is irrelevent.. in fact you can't even be caught.
You can do the same thing with HD, so I'm not sure what you mean.
Do you think DVD aren't subject to the same laws?
Nope. It's movie theaters getting lax on who they toss out.
In the 70's, people would be told to be quite or asked to leave.
Return to that, and the problem will go away.

It'a not the OS.
"You really don't get much more protection with Java then you do with native code on iOS
Up to iOS 5, that statement is blatantly false.
I have looked at 5s new ARC, so I'll leave thatout.
Of course it should.

Its because of the typo;
While trying to invent a Dear Leader' Soda, they had a FIZZION event.
Invisible light.
"Now, don't do that again. If you can't figure out how to use the Internet, go back to Facebook where you belong."

Why don't you 'squirt' him a video?
