I was thinking something similar. The quickest way to make kids want to do something is tell them that they shouldn't/aren't allowed to do it.

She may have just single-handedly created a small army of tiny future FOSS advocates, hehehe.

She just made Linux "naughty" ;)

I agree that Exchange is one of the huge hurdles to giving MS the boot in many companies, and there isn't anything currently working that can fully replace it, but it is being worked on. Integration for Evolution (Gnome mail client) with Exchange/MAPI was supposed to ship with Fedora 10 but got delayed. Further out is a full Exchange replacement, but it is in the works by the same people (www.openchange.org).

You certainly have a point, and there are PHP compilers out there, but they are still in their infancy. I have never really understood the distinction between scripting and programming, and always just assumed that the distinction was interpreted vs compiled.

While PHP is technically a scripting language, not a programming language, there is no reason to attack him like that. I wouldn't say PHP folks are the lowest of the low by a long shot. And knowing both PHP and C++, while there are some differences, skills in PHP easily translate over to C++. Syntactically they seem very similar to me.

While our sales tax seems high, we have no state income tax, and the sales tax is lower for "grocery" items. I'll keep the sales tax over an income tax any day. They tried to pass an income tax here, and the people wisely protested, LOUDLY.

It actually makes more sense for TN than an income tax anyway, since Nashville and Memphis are both tourist traps, and a large portion of state revenue comes from taxes related to tourism.

Also, I hate to burst your political bubble, but the most recent sales tax increases were under a Democratic governor.
