Riiight, because whenever a Microsoft OS BSODs, people never think "Microsoft fucked up my machine! It wasn't that driver that I just installed, it was Microsoft!"
I mean, sure, the law states that when an intersection has traffic lights, and the lights are out, it's an all-way stop. But in practice, I rarely see other drivers actually give a fuck that they are supposed to stop.
And roads are funded by gasoline tax NOT the compact disc tax, so your example is completely and totally irrelevant.
Um, actually that makes GP's example very relevant.
"Why do people think taxes are used for what they say they are?"
"Because other taxes, such as road use taxes, actually go towards road repairs."
Now if you had said that the taxes collected via the road use tax just ends up in a bucket with all the other taxes, which gets spent on things like roads, police, garbage collection, recycling, etc, regardless of how much each one brought into the bucket, then you'd have had a point.
Also I paid nearly $25,000 in taxes last year.
That figure is meaningless without some idea of your pre-tax income. For all I know that may only be half your weekly income.
You seem to assume that those are the only three possible purposes for prison. They aren't.
If the purpose is to control the population, it might make more sense to keep him outside to make more room for anyone badmouthing authority.
If the purpose is slave labor, then such a dangerous person could be detrimental to the well-being of your unpaid workforce.
If the purpose is just to "look like we're doing something", then having someone like that would mean the guards and such would need to perform *gasp* actual work!
Look at that. Three additional reasons, and none of them mean he should be in jail longer.
Really? The only reason you didn't surgically sever up to what on a human would be equivalent to the first knuckle was so that they could defend themselves? Do you have any idea what additional purposes claws have? Cats walk on their claws, they use them to help grip things, and since I'm not clear what you call "defensive purposes", they use them as an additional "hey, back off!" so as to avoid a full-on, rip-out-their-jugular confrontation.
While what you say is absolutely true (and I personally want to carve out the genitals of such animal abusers with a rusty spoon), you and OP seem to be overlooking the fact that GPSing your pets helps in the event that they leave your house/yard without your permission.
I thought the same thing at first, until I RTFA (I know I know, shame on me). IE6 is the dominate IE version, ahead of both IE7 and IE8 (individually). If Windows 98 were the dominate Windows version today, then OSX surpassing it in usage share certainly would not be "much ado about nothing".
Which is also half of the movies that really matter.
No, I'm not talking about the "movies 3 and 4 don't exist" thing. I'm referring to the fact that (to the best of my knowledge at least) James Cameron had nothing to do with movies 3 and 4.
Wrong direction for the flow of money. The radio stations aren't getting money to play specific songs, they're paying money for the privilege of playing those songs.
Probably because a legitimate shop that does window tints will either a) do them to not exceed the limits specified by the law, or b) if the customer requests a tint darker than the law allows, the shop will make it clear to the customer that their vehicle will not be street-legal with such a tint.
To be fair though, I cannot say that I am familiar with the Minnesota state constitution, so it's entirely possible their constitution has something similar.
I think the stereo system (or lack thereof) leaves a lot to wish for.
Stability is decent but could be better.
Environmental protection leaves a lot to wish for.
Older ones couldn't even carry much beyond a single rider.
Of course lots could be improved.
Personally I would from the beginning have preferred an enclosed vehicle with room to fit 3 additional people + some extra junk, and a kick-ass stereo system. And of course 4-wheels for better stability.

It's supposed to be like an all-way stop.
Supposed to be.
You're joking, right?

Don't you still need a copy of the DRM'd version though? Also, not all previously bought DRM'd music is available in the current iTunes store.

injuries sustained against a bigger animal it fought -- something the leash doesn't prevent
As long as you are on the other end of that leash, it can. Unless the bigger animal was, like, a bear or something.
While what you say is absolutely true (and I personally want to carve out the genitals of such animal abusers with a rusty spoon), you and OP seem to be overlooking the fact that GPSing your pets helps in the event that they leave your house/yard without your permission.
Personally I prefer the South Park approach, and strive to be an equal opportunity offender.

"The natural progress of things is for liberty to yield and government to gain ground." -Thomas Jefferson
That doesn't mean we should just bend over and take it as you seem to suggest with your comment of "it'll just become corrupt again."
"The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots & tyrants. It is its natural manure." -Thomas Jefferson
Wasn't there a Terminator vs Predator or Terminator vs Aliens or a Terminator vs Aliens vs Predator comic book?
I thought it was interesting how they made the "first run" Arnold Terminators look like RL Arnold did from _before_ T1.
That held for maybe one movie
Which is also half of the movies that really matter.

they buy off the radio stations
Wrong direction for the flow of money. The radio stations aren't getting money to play specific songs, they're paying money for the privilege of playing those songs.
Or are we talking about two different things?
Probably because a legitimate shop that does window tints will either a) do them to not exceed the limits specified by the law, or b) if the customer requests a tint darker than the law allows, the shop will make it clear to the customer that their vehicle will not be street-legal with such a tint.
I'm a little confused on your position. Do you feel that "doing X, but on the internet" is innovative?
If yes, then I'll leave it at that.
If no, then how is "doing X, but with games" different?
Isn't that the kind of thinking that got us into this whole problem with patents for "doing X, but on the internet"?
If our legal system pursued spammer with the same vigor as copyright violators, we would've rid them some time ago.
Erm, since that same vigor hasn't stopped copyright violators, what makes you think it'd succeed in stopping spam?
Handhelds are expected to be able to do the SAME thing as your console though
Since when?
GB ~= ???
GBC ~= ???
GBA ~= SNES
DS ~= N64
Nintendo handhelds have generally been a generation or two behind the home console.
Except 12 working hours isn't "half for you, half for us", unless you don't ever sleep.
The Tenth Amendment of the United States Constitution respectfully disagrees with your "guiding principle" notion.
To be fair though, I cannot say that I am familiar with the Minnesota state constitution, so it's entirely possible their constitution has something similar.
You do realize that roads deteriorate even when not regularly in use, right? Because I believe that is what GP's point was.
I don't like motorcycles.

If I did not have a 2nd gen GBA SP (the one with the _true_ backlight), I'd have cared.
But forget backwards compatibility for a second. What about the DS games that used the GBA port?
