Right now, in reality, the private sector is not doing it at all, out side of some sub-orbital test flights. Whine about government all you want to, but they got to the moon in 10 years of trying, and so far a private company hasn't even orbited around the planet one time...
We spend 8-10 billion dollars a month in Iraq alone. And you call 30 Billion over 10 years a "criminal waste of money" for a new launch vehicle? Did you stop to think about this for two seconds, because that is CHEAP, and the reason it is cheap is because they have that existing technology to build from.
Then Pentagon has roughly 2 TRILLION dollars that they can't even account for, and you call 30 billion over 10 years (to build a new shuttle) criminal? Get some perspective...
Sure, that's one way of putting it. Another way would be that this pipeline was running right under a slum housing area, and was literally underneath many homes. Not everyone who died in this tragedy was a "complete idiot", and only a heartless fucking idiot would try to tell the story as such.
Anyone who runs a remotely popular service should enforce a minimum security standard on passwords, and have a system in place to keep outside parties from hijacking people's accounts. Stop making excuses for a multi-billion dollar company. They really don't need people to carry water for them.
After using Ubuntu for a year, and abandoning it because of their questionable decisions, I just don't see how they could manage doing a rolling release, without having it become a huge pile of interlocking bugs.
If you want a rolling release that shows how it's done, use Arch Linux...
I've seen many anecdotes about having games run faster in wine than Windows, but my own personal anecdotes say otherwise. My experience with Wine has been something like this: Game looks like its supposed to, but performance is crap. Game has glitches, but performance is acceptable. At the end of the day it's always way more fiddling than I want to spend with my gaming time. When I want to play games these days, I don't want to be bullshitting around with OS settings for a majority of the time.
All this article proves is that KDE is better at turning its OpenGL compositing off before entering a 3D app. This seems like a fairly inflammatory conclusion, based on comparing apples and oranges. Set Linux and BSD up with a lightweight openbox setup, and then benchmark it.... At least have them both using the same DE...
Those are bullseyes. You know. The things Sara Palin claimed her targets were, and thus, why she said they were no big deal. Slight difference between gun sights, and a bullseye...
"President Obama this is your army. We are ready to march. And president Obama we want one thing: Jobs. Jobs. Jobs. Jobs. Jobs. Jobs. Jobs. Jobs. That's what we’re going to tell him. He’s going to be—and when he sees what we’re doing here he will be inspired. But he needs help and you know what? Everybody here's got to vote. If we go back and keep the eye on the prize, let's take these sons of a bitches out and give America back to America where we belong! Thank you very much!"
Kinda different sounding when you include the context...
The headline was enough for me. Anyone who skydives from an altitude where they can burst into re-entry flames, and be caught by a satellite is just nuts!
I'm sorry, but if you advocate that the moon landing was a hoax, you are in fact, a fucking idiot. Netiquette also says not to print things in all-caps.
Ah the "personal liberty" defense. Who would be against that, right?
I think Asimov summed this one up the best: "He always pictured himself a libertarian, which to my way of thinking means ``I want the liberty to grow rich and you can have the liberty to starve''. It's easy to believe that no one should depend on society for help when you yourself happen not to need such help."
The extremists always win, but to me it seems like the best way is a healthy mixed system where we have regulated capitalism in the marketplace, and socialism for things like infrastructure and health care.
About as sad as the fact that a sizable chunk of the population needs proof, because they're too fucking idiotic to appreciate one of the biggest accomplishments of our civilization. If you had told people in the 1970's that this is how it would turn out, they would have laughed you out of the room.

What are the oil companies jealous because they can't get their paws on 100% of government welfare?
The whole project, with budget over-runs, is still cheaper than 1 month in Iraq...
Former Apple employee places blame on users. They trained you well, young sith lord.

No, as a matter of fact, they don't, jackass.
Or just use Arch Linux with their LTS kernel?

Go finish your mayonnaise sandwich, your sister is waiting in the bedroom.
Nothing like a well placed double entendre!
Too big to fail.... Just a sign of the times I guess. Don't expect anything to get better if this is the question we ask ourselves.

But what do I know.
Spoken like someone sitting on top of the class divide...

/dev/null is the best place for it.
