Linux really does need some sort of standards, for things like gaming, if people ever want to see it take off more. The only problem is that getting people in the free software community to agree on something like this is like trying to herd cats.
Yeah the only time I've had Win7 blue screen on me, was when I had a video card fail. Can't blame the OS for that. Linux wouldn't have handled it any more gracefully.
I've tried Left4Dead 2, and Team Fortress 2 in Wine, and both of them run about 25-35 fps slower than the native Windows client. That simply doesn't cut it. It's putting good hardware to waste.
What you propose there is ludicrus. Native clients will always run faster than Wine. Not to mention that if a game is properly ported you don't have to worry about what distro you run. Go get a copy of Unreal Tournament, and install it on Ubuntuu 10.04. It installs just fine, and is 11 years old.
There is no need to make a "wine-compatible client" when OpenGL is just fine, will run better, and will be supported longer. Wine has gone through more fundamental changes than the basic structure of Linux. So while it might seem like a good short term idea to just make "wine compatible" games, what happens when the next wine version hits, and things aren't working properly anymore. Anyone who has used Wine enough will tell you that some older versions work better for certain games, etc.
Flame away, but one area where MS is currently destroying the competition is on GPU acceleration. Mac is playing catch up, and unfortunately Linux is still a mess. There is a reason game companies still get away with releasing for Windows and ignoring Mac and Linux.
Ironically enough, The Gunslinger was written when King WAS a high school student!:)
That being said, I think King would even agree with your assessment, which is why he re-wrote a huge chunk of that book and re-releasing it a few years ago.
I like how the tag says Obama, when Obama hasn't appointed one justice to this court. W. put 7 of them on there... He's nominated a few, but the Republicans won't put them up for that "up or down vote" they were so worried about during W.'s term.
I wasn't suggesting they were R-Rated movies. What I was trying to say was that at least LotR dealt with what was in the books. It didn't need to be R-Rated. However, doing Dark Tower on TV, I just don't see how it could be done in the spirit of the books.
If it's not done as a series of R-Rated movies, in the spirit of how Lord of the Rings was done, then I don't see how anything good can come of this....
The Dark Tower is my all-time favorite series of books, and I'm appalled to read this....
It would need 3-4 3-hour R-rated moves, and Clint Eastwood at 30 years old, to play Roland.
An Xbox with XBMC has served me well for around 7 years now. Best console I ever bought. Not sure I played more than an hour of Xbox games on it though.:)
It saddens me to say that the old beast is starting to show it's age in the face of HD content. 720p is too much for the old girl, and forget about 1080p. Pretty sure I heard the thing heavily sigh when I tried that.:/
I hope that they're both successful, and it pushes Comcast to remove their 250gb a month limit on internet lines.
At one time 250gb was a lot, but these days, with streaming video (comcast's own site will stream 1080p HD movies to your PC), it's not hard to gobble up all of that in a month.

Then get used to having no new games on Linux. It's really that simple...

Do you think it might have something to do with the fact that Ubuntu also has more users than those other distros combined?
Agreed 100%. X11 is a POS. It get's the job done, but just barely. It still amazes me that Linux uses something designed in the 1970's for graphics...
Design Fail! They need to fire whoever green lit that design...

Who says the universe needs a center?
If you think they don't negatively impact society, you're a fool.
They know as much about web design as the topics they focus on.
Global warming deniers do have open minds.
The only problem is that their minds are so open, that their brains fell out.

I know, right? I thought ALL PC gamers just pirated games!

After seeing how Lost ended up, I'm GLAD those asshats don't have anything to do with Dark Tower.
You're not a King fan until you've read The Dark Tower series. It's his masterpiece.
Or the Oracle. How will PG-13 deal with Roland being raped by a demon, who takes his seed, and then rapes Suzannah to impregnate her?

Is it just me, or is Adobe the King of Insecure programs?
What does Linux and Windows 7 have in common? Adobe makes both insecure and unstable!

Well played, sir!
I'm just surprised Oracle wanted him. From what I've heard about Hurd, he can be unstable, and isn't quite ready for daily use.
