I don't disagree with that assessment. I slammed Bush, so ppl immediately assume I'm a Democratic fanboy. The Republicans and Democrats are both corporatist parties. In other words, fascist. By that I take the meaning that Mussolini gave for fascism: The merging of state and corporate power.
Right now we have no viable alternative. The Teabaggers aren't it. Most of those people are just Republican activists trying to push us even further to the right.
Obama is proving to be another center-right Democrat. It amuses me hearing Republicans call him a socialist, when his policies look more like what Reagan enacted. His "evil socialist" healthcare plan is basically the Republican health care plan from 1994, that they introduced to counter Clinton's plan.
I'm not sure how I'm losing an argument. I never claimed Obama was a liberal, or left wing... What I did state was that Bush was a right-winger, which he is.
It's funny. Lately I've heard more and more conservatives make the claim that they were pissed off with Bush, and outraged at what he did, back when he was president. Yet I still retain a memory, and I lived through the Bush administration. Where were you guys when it mattered?
You might be in that 1% group of conservatives that were outraged, but as a majority, right wingers went along with everything Bush did. Bush had screwed up enough by 2004 that he deserved to be voted out, and yet there was no big counter movement in conservative circles against him. I don't remember any tea-party railing against his economically devastating policies.
You should also settle down about people "talking shit" (as if my comment was directed right at you), as you follow it up with a lazy insult pointed directly at me.
Yeah Bush is a right-winger. The idea that bush is 'to the left' or a 'liberal' is an invention of other right wingers as a way to excuse what they supported for 8 years.
Look at the policies Bush supported and tell me with a straight face that any of it was liberal, or left wing. Good luck.
And a similar point could be made of right-wingers. As long as it was a right-wing administration they were just fine with warrantless wiretapping. Now? They're outraged!
What it really exposes is that partisans are hypocrites regardless of party or ideology.
Nuke Mecca during pilgrimage? Great plan there, genius. If you think that would "end" anything, you're a fool. A bloodthirsty one at that. This is why conservative armchair warriors should be roundly ignored.
Well if you really want to get anal, why no mention of GNU? Without GNU there would be no Linux.
I just really don't get what the complaining is about. Isn't the whole point of the free software movement to get a nice stable OS built? So what's the problem with Ubuntu? Is it now Freedom with Caveats? If Ubuntu were somehow violating the GPL, that would be one thing, but the complaint seems to be that they're taking advantage of what the GPL was set up to enable... The "debate" sounds more like petty jealousy to me.
And you're making the mistake of assuming everyone engaged in the free enterprise market is honest, moral, and not greedy.. The financial mess we're in now wasn't caused by socialists, but by greedy capitalists trying to game the market.
Yeah except that whole part about making Linux easier to use, and accessable to average users. Not everyone wants to learn the intricate details of how their OS works, some of them just want to use it.
It may not be the distro for you, but to dismiss it as adding very little to the OSS community is intellecutally dishonest. Ubuntu was very helpful to many people for getting started on Linux. I myself started using it a year ago, and recently switched to Arch Linux because I was ready to learn more about how the sytem works. Ubuntu opened the door, and I'm very greatful for that.
If you're talking about pure socialism, then I agree. However the same argument could be made for pure capitalism. I think the best systems are the ones where we strike a balance between the two.
Yes but you can't stick with old outdated hardware, and then whine when the software surpasses it. No one is forcing anyone to upgrade. Don't want to upgrade your hardware? Fine. Just don't expect the software world to just stop progress because you don't want to upgrade.
You're a user, not a customer. There is a difference. Unless you know some place that sold you KDE, and in that case you got ripped off, because you can download it right from your distro's repository like the rest of us users.
It's pretty amazing seeing someone actually openly whine about having to RTFA. Apparently that would slow down on the amount of trolling one can accomplish.
I would have to agree about Akonadi. I recently did an install of Arch Linux, and used KDE for about a week before it started annoying me more than Windows 7 does. I removed KDE and just went back to Gnome. At least there I can strip out all of the stuff I don't want to use.
You read it correct. They gave these people one copy for them, and one to gift to a friend. If that isn't kick ass customer service, I'm not sure what is.
Yep, and he mentions MESS in the paper. The difference in the subject is that one set of machines ran at home, and the other in the arcade. He's focusing on the ones that ran in the home, hence he mentions MESS but not MAME... This isn't Rocket Surgery.

Is that not several days?
And you're making the mistake of assuming everyone engaged in the free enterprise market is honest, moral, and not greedy.. The financial mess we're in now wasn't caused by socialists, but by greedy capitalists trying to game the market.
How is this any different than any Linux distro? It sounds to me like you're arguing against the basic concept of free software...
Killed Debian? Sounds like hyperbole to me...
Yeah except that whole part about making Linux easier to use, and accessable to average users. Not everyone wants to learn the intricate details of how their OS works, some of them just want to use it.

And laugh at everyone posting about how Shuttleworth is wrong by default, and how Ubuntu sucks by default.
Well you could always remove gnome-panel, which is exactly what I did because I use AWN as a replacement for it. Any more "gotcha" questions?
As I said, if you feel it's a waste, don't upgrade!
Yes but you can't stick with old outdated hardware, and then whine when the software surpasses it. No one is forcing anyone to upgrade. Don't want to upgrade your hardware? Fine. Just don't expect the software world to just stop progress because you don't want to upgrade.
Then don't upgrade! No one is forcing you to install software that is incompatible with your old hardware...

Yes, if only they had a real life like you, where they sit around trolling slashdot as an AC.
Agreed, but if they feel it's too buggy for release, I'll take their word for it. They're the ones that are doing the work...
