I've read many tales about how he also spent most of their money on vanity items, and drove the business into the ground. Not to mention that 10 years ago Linux was a pain in the ass for a lot of people to set up and use. With distros like Ubuntu and Mint it's much more accessible now for people who simply want to play games, and not spend all their free time setting the system up.
No they have in no way confirmed a Linux client. Not at all. Show me one quote from someone at Valve confirming it. You can't because no such confirmation exists.
Don't get me wrong, I would LOVE to see a Linux client, but Valve hasn't said anything about it. The fact that people from Phoronix hacked together an alpha quality client is meaningless.
"Note that Chrome doesn't actually support this all the way, so a few resources might still load before AdBlock can get to them, in which case we'll remove those as usual."
People talk about the bloat in Firefox after they install 50-100 addons. By default there is nothing bloated about firefox, and the only time it does become bloated is because of the user.
Reading through this thread has brought back the memories of when I first started using Linux. There is a subset of Linux users who seem to think that acting like a giant douche bag will help people adopt the platform.
Don't get me wrong, I've found that there are some amazing people in the Linux community that are more than willing to help out someone genuinely willing to learn, but there still exists this subset of assholes that seem to think ridicule, and basically acting like a dickhead makes them superior. If you're one of those people get over yourself. Linux would be better off without you!
It's sad to see that anti-intellectualism has taken such a foot hold on this website. So much for news for nerds. It's amazing seeing people here arguing in favor of cutting science research.
This has been similar to my experience dealing with them. If you do have a problem with your line, it can take weeks to get someone who knows what they're doing to look at it.
Agreed. It's a bit of a stretch. I could understand if the Synclavier was some sort of hobbyist machine, that you could build yourself, but it was a commercial product, and nothing about it was "open source". When the company died, so did the Synclavier.

Until Valve says anything about a Linux client, it's just rumor and speculation.
And contrary to what Phoronix has reported for a couple of years now, Valve has not said one word about a Linux port.
How is Shoutcast a copy of Icecast, when Shoutcast came first? Once upon a time Nullsoft wasn't owned by AOL, and produced something called Winamp...
From the 2nd paragraph:
"Note that Chrome doesn't actually support this all the way, so a few resources might still load before AdBlock can get to them, in which case we'll remove those as usual."

Good thing the world doesn't revolve around you!
I stopped reading after this guy droned on too long about whatever it was he's complaining about. A quick trip to wikipedia proves him utterly wrong.
Yeah silly me, expecting civility.

I didn't see this update at all yesterday, but then again, I didn't install their search program.
So we're now going to bash MS for putting an update out for some of their software that people had to manually install?
There are, however, ads for Direct TV on Cable TV. What's your point?
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
That is truly funny coming from the company that hosts NSA spy rooms.
This is going to revolutionize the way we use iphones! Apple has done it again. All Hail Steve!

Going by your logic, Unix shouldn't even need instructions at this point...
The absolute mindless 7 bashing here is getting pathetic.
How is it more confusing? It's basically the same damn thing...
He also had to deal with a veto proof majority when things like Glas-Stegall were removed.

No DSL in the town I live in. Hence, no choice.
Or if you live in an area like me, it's Comcast cable, or nothing else. There is no choice.
It always annoys me to no end when I have to call their dismal tech support line, and am greeted with "Thank you for choosing Comcast!"....
And ironically Zappa would be disgusted with the attempted censorship.
Fair enough. Most of the people I've tried to turn on to Zappa couldn't get passed the "weird" factor.
