How would the UK government, on it's own, regulate the BitCoin market? It's not UK based, it's distributed globally, and it has users all over the world. Even if they COULD, WTH would give the UK the legal authority to even try? They might as well decide to regulate the Dollar, the Yuan, or International gold prices.
Am I just fundamentally misunderstanding something?
In the district I live in, over 50% of the annual budget for schools to to paying Teacher Pensions. The teacher's unions worked out a deal, years ago, that removed our teachers from the Social Security system, and instead put them in the state funded "Teacher's Retirement System". Combined w/ salary increases, steps, lanes, etc, "teacher costs" have been rising more and more every year. In fact, looking at my property tax bill for last year, 51.89% of my bill went directly to the local school district, which is higher than any year before. However, once you remove the cost of teacher's salaries and pension, the amount of $$$ spent per pupil is going own. Why? Simple....
When you have a set amount of $$$, and you are forced to spend more and more of it on a single line item, that leaves less and less for everything else. Since the local economy cannot afford endless tax increases (we already have a 5% effective annual increase), and the teacher's unions won't allow any decreases in pensions, salaries, insurance, etc, the only place to cut is supplies.
Sad, but true.
Now given the leftist bend here on Slashdot, I'll don my asbestos underwear and await the bashing that is sure to come. lol
Why does the skeptic side of me say that while they may be embracing USB-C, how much do you want to bet that the voltage spec will be incompatible w/ existing Android chargers. And knowing Apple, hey will find some way to make direct plug peripherals that work w/ Android incompatible w/ the iPhones.:(
"Come on fan boys, buy out crap (like speaker docks) for a THIRD time!" lol
I would despise living under a regime that prohibited me working if that's what I wanted to do.
Worse than that, think about a few things. Small companies that need to do "after hours changes" will now have to institute shift-work where they didn't have it before, or at least a 1:1 hour shift for those changes. At my job,. I work 40 scheduled hours, and somewhere between 1-20 hours after that just to get done what needs to be done. Not including the on-call hours when it's my week in the rotation.
If this stands, my hunch is that you will see even increasing outsourcing of IT jobs to India, or other countries w/ looser work rules and lower labor costs. How will those French IT workers live "the sweet life" when they are too poor to afford their wine and cheese since they are unemployed?
Forgive me, but I just don't see the "usability" aspect. How is this more "usable" than what I have now? What the author calls "raw" data, I call data. To me, that is WAY more usable than what the author has posted.
I agree. Criminals are criminals because they have no regard for the law. So more laws saying call-phone use/possession by criminals are useless because they won't follow them any more than they did the laws that got them in prison in the first place. Just install jammers through the prison complex (where they will not interfere with guard stations, etc) and be done with it. "What's that Charlie Manson, your cell phone isn't working? Ahhh, too bad."
As long as your wiring is static, I would say only replace what breaks/fails until you choose to upgrade the network. If you go to Gig-E, I would suggest Cat6.

Probably one of those "Use Caution" signs on the roadside. Powered by its own solar panel/battery, in a warm weather state.
According to the article, France has had a 35 hour work week since '99.
