  1. Re:Where are the Guts? on DOJ Wary Of Breaking Up Microsoft · · Score: 1

I thing the gvmnt is afraid of pissed of share holders. If the "mess up" Mr Gates company and the shares go down a lot of people holding MS shares will get pissed and blame "the damn democrats".. As someone stated pissed off people are more likely to vote.

Also I think the gvmnt is unwilling to kill one of their biggest "cows" that still can be "milked" for a long time in the forms of taxes (company taxes/wage taxes/selling taxes)...

It's a shame how being a big company lets you get away with stuff eventhoug a judge has conclude that you've been acting like a criminal...

    Thank you

Hello mr. AC... I admit that it was a while ago I tested IE for Solaris and it was a complete joke. Since it sucked so much I haven't bothered to check it again.. It might be possible that MS has fixed IE for Solaris but according to other posters here it still sucks... I'll have to check that out again for myself though...

    Thank you for your attention.

I mean, what's the point? If Mozilla is coming out soon (and I'll believe that when and if I see it) why are they still bothering to release new versions of Netscape?

Mozilla (or Netscapes version - Nestcape 6) is important because it's goal is to follow standards rather than setting own standards. I'd personaly really like to have a browser that handles CSS they way it should be done.. (NS4 doesn't either!..)

Seeing as how most people use Internet Explorer, which for all its faults is still a decent piece of software, who is going to be using this? Not me, that's for sure.

Have you ever used MSIE on anything else than WinXX?!.. Apparently not!.. Please give it a go under Solaris!.. Afterwards take two (or five) pills and call your shrink in the morning...

Conclusion: MSIE runs smoothly on WinXX (partialy because webprogramers design the pages to fit different browsers), BUT Anyone not runing WinXX should use NS for his own sake...

See, that's the nice thing about capitalism. There's no central planner to say that you have to sit here, or go there, or be nice. There's no excessive transmission of executable context, to speak in geek terms. You pay the cash, you get the product.

I just had to tell you that you are speaking about market economy wich need not have anything to do with capitalism. I like market economy, capitalism I generally don't like.

    The difference:

    • Market economy is when the prices and availability of products depend on the demand/supply. Theoretaicaly this is a perfect setup unless companies get dirty and play the game MS-style. Market economy is the correct opposite of plan economy.
    • Capitalism on the other hand is when you "by the sloe right of having money" can get to make even more money. This can be good when the money is used in a "responsible" way: to invest in your buessiness, raise wages etc to make a better company that produces more/better products... Unfortunately it almost allways takes a sick twist as in things as the stock market or lobbyism to name but a few...
