Good point, however, even though I bank at US Bank and have a PayPal account (i.e. have an existing relationship), I'd still think twice if I received an email (supposedly) from either of them asking me to enter account info, etc. If I ever have a doubt, I call first.
In 2002, HP threatened a group of security researchers saying HP would use the DCMA to impose $500,000 fines and imprisonment if they demonstrated a vulnerability that was found Tru64. Register article here:

IMHO, this is definately a situation in which a proprietary vendor threatened someone for finding a bug in their product.
as much as i'd like to see them go bankrupt, i'd much rather see the snot beat out of them by Big Blue in court first. i think it would be slower and more painful for them that way. not to mention more fun to watch.
did you stop to think that when i clicked the "Reply to This" link, there weren't any replies made to the parent yet? gee imagine that, people posting while i am busy typing mine (and working at the same time). how freakin' amazing. i apologize, i guess my telepathy skills are a little rusty seeing as how i was unable to stop anyone else from replying before my comment was posted to the comments page. i bow down to your uber non-redundancy skillz. the only thing i consider redundant here is your use of the word "moron". if my redundancy bothers you that much, get an account and mod me redundant, moron.
actually, i did read the whole page. upon reading the whole page i noticed a) that the "Under 7 lbs." box was unchecked indicating that it weighs OVER 7 lbs. and b) at the bottom it specifically says that it weighs 16 lbs. i don't really see how any of this is confusing, unless someone reading the page doesn't understand the concept of checkboxes and/or can't read. and i don't care how many times it's been covered. i can't freakin' stand it when people piss and moan about a news item/moderator being wrong when it is, in fact, the person bitching who is wrong because they are either too lazy or too stupid to read a webpage properly.
Um, no. if you take another 2 seconds and re-read that link you posted it says 6.4 KILOGRAMS. which translates to roughly 14.1 POUNDS. and thats w/o battery. looks like it is, in fact, 16 POUNDS with battery (or 7.1 KILOGRAMS).
no kidding. a Google search for the words "litigious bastards" doesn't list SCO's website as the #1 link anymore (at least not as i'm writing this...), but a Yahoo! search for the same shows SCO's site right up there on top. shame on you Google...
"...the fact that 99.99% (wild number I pulled from my arse) of these affect Windows machines only."
I agree and I think this point is nicely illustrated by the lines in the article "This guy,'' he proclaimed, ''is the best at Visual Basic" and "Visual Basic is a computer language popular among malware authors..."
Can't remember the last time VB code ran on my Linux box...:-)
I can see the point, but I don't totally agree. The people I know that use Linux (including myself) don't do so because it's "cool", they use it for development sake and because it's easier to cutomize and more customizable than Windows or MacOS. And as far as blaiming MS goes, MS does make buggy products. I'm not saying that everything on Linux is bug-free because it's not. But becasue Windows is the dominant OS on home PCs, MS doesn't have to worry about competition as much so if they release a buggy product, they don't have to worry about people switching to another OS. For most people it's easier to wait for a bug fix. In my opinion, Linux isn't becoming popular because it's the "cool" thing to do, it's becoming popular because it's a good OS.

would be too much to hope/pray for?

actually, since the first version is for windows, i was thinking more of hearing "Where do you want to go today?" when you start it up...
the DivX codec is available for Linux. Look here.
wanna download stuff? get mldonkey.
now, there's no excuse for a linux user to not have illegal music, movies, etc.

queen did sue vanilla ice.
van halen did sue tone loc.
the WCW/WWE did have to pay the estate of jimi hendrix for use of hendrix's music.
it took about 5 minutes on Google to confirm those 3. not sure about the rest though. i can't spend all day on google now, can i?
