    But it's not exactly what the poster asks for. I'm also using smoothwall and like it, but AFAIK one needs to install it on a HD, no way it can be run directly from the CD.

    Of course jabber servers communicate with each others. But they also communicate with the other IM system, as soon as transports for the given IM system are installed on the server you will be connected to. See this list of available servers and the transport they support.

    It's not going to help it, see its post:
    I've tried UDF, but the versions aren't compatible (Linux likes 2+, and OSX only goes to 1.5). Not to mention, Mac OS doesn't seem to like a whole block device formatted as UDF (mmm... kernel panic).

    Yes, but it doesn't solve the issue with the ISA cards. Using old boxes to, for instance, build a firewall more often means having to mess with IRQ and IO assigned to given ISA cards. What is the easiest way to find out the proper settings. Once again, the solution is for me to install a windoze something and write down the settings on a piece of paper. But what a waste of time. Any nicer solution?

    Now, let's go a little bit further. On old computers, the usual problem I have is to find the IRQ and IO of ISA cards. Sometimes I first install windoze just to have them. Any clue?

    Thanks a lot. Never heard about that tool before but I already like it.

    But does someone knows about generic tools that could perform diagnostics on the other basic parts of a computer: the motherboard and the CPU. It could for instance be a linux boot disk tailored to report every issues found (and why not also the harware configuration: chipset, IRQ, ...).
