That sounds like my husband. He won't let me get the shirt that says 'No I will not fix your computer'. I've been asking for that since before Christmas. I think that would be a cool present though.

On the other hand I did convince him to get me a the SunBlade 100 for our wedding present; so I think geeky clothing is cool and is ok for presents.

The best part about it is when your relatives ask you what it's talking about because they don't get it and when you explain they chalk it up as one of those computer things.

One of the things I think would be neat-o to have is some of the Mindstorm Legos. I could entertain myself for hours with a those.

He doesn't really give me ideas about what he wants for presents unless I prod him.

I personally would be happy if the guys at work would let me stay forever and work on stuff. But they make me go home all the time. And I disagree that time isn't on our side. I would rather much goto work do some programming, have another discussion trying to convince everyone as to why if you did such and such in *NIX it would be 10 times easier. I do know from school though that a lot of the females think that it takes way to much time to do all of the work, but after awhile you kind of get used to the idea that if you want to be a female in the field well then you are just going to be alone. I personally find that fine, I'd rather be around all of the "geek guys" to talk about stuff that interests me (basically anything computer related) than to hang around people who just don't understand the stuff. If they don't understand it, it drives me crazy. The only thing that I've really noticed about being a female is that where I work, people on the phone naturally assume that I'm the secretary instaed of one of the software developers. Either that or they hang up because they think they got a wrong phone number for a software company. The thing that makes me really sad about being a female in the CS department is that as I've been at school then number of females gets less and less, I'm the only one in most of my classes. That's what really dissapoints me is that most females seem to think it's to hard. (This tends to be true at my university, I can't speak for others.) Just my two cents.

Just my thought but when you pushed the submit button you gave slashdot permission to publish your comment. In my opinion at that point one would lose the ownership to what they say and it became the property of Slashdot.

Besides like we talk about in my philosophy class in the CIS department. If you are really so concerned about privacy of what you say or do, then you really don't have to post a comment.

Besides what's the difference with reading your comment in a book or reading it on Slashdot. I for one can not put a name to every nickname on here and that's just like everyone being anonymous in the first place.

  4. Re: Women not interested huh? on Women CS Majors Declining · · Score: 1

I'm a female computer science major I'm one of like maybe three at the entire school. I don't think it's because women aren't interensted in CS, I personally believe that most of them out there can't handle it (sorry females). I know a lot of them who tried and then dropped out because of the math or because they didn't understand something else, or because programming was too hard. I personally have been interested since I was in high school. I was the only female in all of my programming classes there, and it didn't bother me one bit. It still doesn't bother me now. Most of the females I see are MIS majors, which according to me in my personal opinion is a really sissy major. My goodness even calculus isn't involved in that class. That and all of them drive me nuts in class asking stupid questions. Personally I would rather it be just like the way it is, a entire 5 in the department, because it works just fine to me, and I don't see a problem with it.
