If you are reading articles from games.slashdot.org and you don't know what RTS is, you are likely in the wrong place. It is hardly some 'arcane' acronym.
Dead pixels are dead from the start. It's possible to get 'sticky' pixels also, where they will display some colours, but not all. My laptop has one bad one that will display from white to dark blue, but no further (ie- a black screen will have one blue pixel on it).
Try your screen with all white and all black and if you don't see any bad pixels, you are set.

Holy smokes, you should go pick up a copy of microsoft Bob. It sounds like it was made just for you. Seriously. The whole 'desktop' taken literally was a big part of it.... also a huge reason why it failed. A computer is not a desktop, regardless of the name. Its inconvenient to force that type of worksapce onto your PC.
Based on the lack of activity in this forum, I think that it is safe to say that BSD users have been driven out by the trolls.... or they are just too busy downloading all those ports to actually come and post here.;-)
So... the poor guy gets his server hammered, bandwidth bill goes through the roof... 2 days later the server is just starting to recover, and BOOM! Hammered again, double the charges, etc... Eep!
Ah well, maybe they did some upgrades after the first one and now they get to see if it can handle the load any better now.;-)
I'm surprised that the readership of Slashdot so easily accepts this encroachment on our personal freedoms. It starts out innocently enough, with a limited rollout of these privacy invasion systems in specific problem areas. But if we don't stand up now and demand an end to it, the freedom of cats everywhere to carry animals that they legally procured will soon be taken away.
Am I paranoid to imagine that this technology may someday be used in airports to keep cats from boarding flights while carrying small animals? Then what about bus stations? Churches? Restaurants? Hotels? Doesn't this amount to an illegal search by feline authorities? Where is the army of angry geeks to protest this behavior? Ahh, too busy bitching about Morpheus. I see where your priorities lie. Our founding fathers must be turning over in their graves.
Don't forget, the first thing Hitler did when he rose to power was to demand that all cats register their kills with the government. Perhaps you think I'm being an alarmist, but Midnight and I are going to be stockpiling dead woodchucks in my basement.
Detritus is right. Embedded programming isn't just a case of programming on machines that don't have a monitor. It requires a much more intimate knowledge of hardware. 99% of these jobs are going to go to electrical engineers. Good luck on finding that other 1%, particularly when you have no real experience programming.
Rat Shack used to sell a chip 'like' this, not these exact chips. The voice quality of these chips is much improved, and it has MANY MANY new features. Perhaps you should read the article and actually check out the specs of the chip before running it down, hmmm?
The Data Gloove goes into hibernation this time of year, so it will be hard to hunt down one of the fluffy little guys. Maybe you are best off waiting until spring.
There isn't enough voltage or current in those cables to blow a cap off of a motherboard. We are talking about high/low signalling. Likely on the order of 20 to 50mA tops. Even beyond that, there are no capacitors connected directly to the IDE signalling lines.
How do we blow up caps? 1) power up a tantulum cap backwards. Not possible with a bad IDE cable for the reason above... no caps connected to the lines. 2) apply a huge voltage to a low voltage capacitor. Likely the caps on a motherboard are around 6.3V caps, so this is possible. But again, there are no caps on the IDE lines. Not gonna happen.
Hence, blowing caps off of the motherboard (assuming that it actually did happen...) was not caused by the cables. The only was to possibly do this was to plug in your cables from the powersupply to the motherboard wrong. In this case, it is possible to get GND and +V backwards in this case.
Don't blame the cables, blame user stupidity.
Actually, I doubt that this is even a real question. Sounds more like a troll that got posted by Cliff.
And how do you figure that people will be able to access the internet when a blackout is happening now? My assumption would be that when the power is out, DSL and Cable modems aren't overly effective either.
(yes, I know it looks geeky, but stick on a couple Rage Against the Machine stickers and people think it's just a fashion statement, the latest in do-it-yourself geek-wear.)
It would seem to me that strapping hardware to your body is hardly 'raging against the machine'. It's more 'the machine won'.
Ethernet is transmitted using Manchester encoding, which has the advantage of having the clock encoded into the data transmission. Clock recovery is not a problem with ethernet.
Check out IMWHEEL. It'll get your wheel spinning. 8-) Do a search on freshmeat.net or something to track it down. I'm too lazy to do your searching for you.
By the way, we are swapping out service for the use of their house as a repeater location. And seeing as we have a 25mb/s pipe to them to service the repeater, they are getting really GOOD service too..
I may just be me, but I fail to see how a 25 millibit per second connection would kick ass.

That's the ticket. Very flexible personal skype-out device plus a bunch of other goodies for $50US.

dc to dc conversion is a mature technology.
The real reason you don't see more of them is that most people don't care about running a computer motherboard from their car.
Amazingly, the US isn't 36 thousand miles across. I realize it feels pretty big for you yankees, but really.... Get a grip!

Looks like not too many slashdotters use GNUstep. I'd guess that everyone is probably waiting for KDE3.

I agree with Mello. I had no trouble turning all my Ani cd's into mp3s. I'd take a look at your ripping method to find the problem.
[If now, how far is that away?]

Do a search for DLPortIO. (http://www.driverlinx.com)
It has all the answers to your question, and you would have run across it had you really done a search.

On the other hand, I got a real kick out of the joke.

DVD-RW will be coming along soon enough.... don't worry... soon you'll be able to back all that porn of yours up on a single shiny disc. 8-)
