I don't think the argument about who invented the portable(personal) digital media player is relevant to the question of why Apple (who was several years late) dominates the market. The next tech company that correctly answers that question will dominate the rest of the market and challenge Apple.
In an analogy: Ford did not invent the automobile, nor did he invent assembly line production, and his first product was limited in capability and appearance but the price was such that almost anyone could buy it.
"Innovation is a change in the thought process for doing something or "new stuff that is made useful".[1] It may refer to an incremental emergent or radical and revolutionary changes in thinking, products, processes, or organizations. Following Schumpeter (1934), contributors to the scholarly literature on innovation typically distinguish between invention, an idea made manifest, and innovation, ideas applied successfully in practice."
You just accused Apple of not being innovative to begin with, then you claim to like what they do with other people's ideas...
According to your logic, if they asked to strip search you, you would submit to it because it was the only way to prevent shoplifting and they have every right to strip search you.
Most inventory is stolen by employees of the store, not shoplifters. The real reason for the receipt checkers at the door is to make sure that their cashiers are correctly charging for every item you have purchased and haven't let one of their friends get a free MP3 player. Unless the receipt checkers are patting you down they have no way of knowing that you have stolen anything from them, so simply asking to see your receipt does not prevent shoplifting.
The system already allows for separate outputs for alerts and normal sound out. From the System Preferences you can select the built in speakers for all alerts while still using external speakers/headphones for iTunes. And this setting does not change even if someone were to plug in a headphone jack. So, chances are that this would be simple to implement using the built in system libraries for audio.
Late? Or perhaps you meant early? Or it could be that this is neither late nor early, but simply in a quantum state of an April Fool's joke that has been measured before all the computations had a chance to stabilize in the computer (running or not).
Obviously, you don't know me- not only do I support the Iraq war, I am returning there a second time in the summer.
I bet, you make great money that way. Regular pay, combat pay, hazardous duty pay, and deployment pay.
I have seen what the repressive regimes have done to people, unlike you (michael moore was wrong, by the way).
Really? Michael Moore was wrong? Oh my GOD! Are you saying he didn't get his facts straight before he went to war? Good thing our president isn't like Michael Moore.
Further, did you forget that we (the Colonies) seeked help from Europe during our war for independence? So, wouldn't China (the people) need help? Of course not, unless you want them to succeed.
Ok, short grammar nazi moment, "seeked" should have been "sought." The difference is that that the help from Europe was asked for, they didn't invade searching for weapons of mass distraction and claiming liberation for the American people. Now, just like Vietnam before we are fighting all sides there.
Thought game, how many chips can you run Linux on? How much difference is there between ports of the same distro targeting different chips? As one who lived through the shift from the 680x0 line to the PPC line, I remember the many headaches but I also remember how surprisingly smooth the shift was once all the developers were on the same game plan. I figure that IF IBM gets it's act together and is able to supply both the quantity and quality (read: chips faster than 2.5gHz ) of PPC chips that Apple wants Apple will use them in their high-end line like the XServe, PowerBook and PowerMac. The Intel chips would be used on the low-end such as the iBook, iMac and MacMini. Now there would be a minor issue in the beginning on the topic of programs and hardware targeting one platform or the other but if the developers stick to Apple guidelines and target the OS rather than the hardware this will be less of an issue. Even hardware (i.e. PCI cards) if it sticks to the Apple guidelines won't even need to know if it is in a X86 or PPC system.
IT"S A FREAKING REPLY! That is what the "Re:" part means, and yes, it also means "regarding" but not in this case. I, think, youl'd like that better; then the difference between: Effect & Affect
Actually it does effect Safari, but you have to jump through hoops to get it to work. After you have clicked on the link, you have to refresh the Secunia page, then it will work. It's kinda strange, but I guess it is a vulnerability. Kinda like walking back and forth through a bad neighborhood while counting your cash.
It did contribute to the conversation, making it clear that in emulation mode on regular hardware (i.e. i586 2Ghz laptop) MacOSX is painfully slow. Seeing as the Xbox has an even slower CPU and even less memory one could guess that it would be even worse. Your original post made it sound like FUD about the worthiness of OSX even on native hardware (ie PPC) even though everyone knows that there are no 2Ghz Powerbooks. Not a correction just a clarification.

PS, ignore the insults, those ass monkeys get off doing that kind of thing.
Strange, I have OSX on a pathetically slow (compared to a 2Ghz) 800Mhz PowerMac 9500 and I have never had any speed issues. It's not even supported by OSX at all. Sometimes I even play some of my old games in Classic (OS9 emulation mode.) Maybe your laptop has some hardware issues, unless it's not a iBook or Powerbook and is running OSX in emulation mode. Actually, thinking about it, I think you are running it in emulation mode.
Go into your PHB's office and ask for a promotion or a raise or just about what ever you want keeping in mind that he most likely will not give it to you. Then tell him that he has two weeks to think about it.
Yes, I second this sentiment. The only teachers that I remember from pub school are the ones who did things like this. They got involved with their students, they were Teachers.
The sooner we get an education system which does not teach religion or political or patriotic based material the better.
I don't think that the word "patriotic" is the one you want, "nationalistic" is the one. A nationalist is one who supports the government despite the country; a patriot is one who supports the country despite the government.
Somebody like Hari Seldon?

How many digits are in Pi?
I think it was more of a rhetorical question. Perhaps they know each other in real life and this is how they bro-fist over the internet.
I would check your sources if they did not contain the examples. Most likely you chose not to install the examples.
Um, from the public encyclopedia...

Ah, but since I am not Anonymous, nor am I on a raid, I have not violated rule #1.
/b/ accepts everyone...
Well done sir, I believe you have check-mate.
Insightful, I will have to remember that link.
I, for one, am interested in your wet slippery bits at the front.
I'd hit her.
We do have sex, but maintaining our hip status also requires that we know the latest and greatest in positions and lingo.
