get a new pistol, just for the fun of doing so and make the powers that be nervous
Do you guys really think the REAL "powers that be" care if you have a gun or not?
They control you through the TV & Movies you watch, the newspapers & websites you read, the clothes & cosmetics you buy, the billboards on the highway, the breakfast cereal you eat.
It makes them happy to think that all they have to do is let you have a gun and you'll think you're free.
They try to pass bills against guns so they you can fight against them and think you are rebelling against the system.
The anti-gun control people have a point. The gun control laws don't do a whole lot since many criminals just buy guns on the black market.
The real way to stop people from getting so many guns is to cut production. Most black market weapons are either stollen from trucks leaving the factories or smuggled in from countries that our government sold them to.
If we limited production to government controlled plants that only made enough for the military (at least until we do away with them, too) and stopped random companies from making and selling guns there would be no guns to black market.
You can tell me how the government will enslave us if we don't have guns, but that's all bullshit in this day and age. The government (controlled by corporations) has found non-violent ways to enslave us. They don't need a military state like they would have in the 1700s.
The government has always regulated arms. It isn't legal to run around with a trunk full of C4 or a nuclear device, now is it?
A gun's primary purpose is for killing. Even more so than dinamite, which is illegal to own (unless you're a demolition company). Knives are dangerous too, but they are neccisary tools in our society. Guns are not. We must draw at line there.

While I agree with you, I don't think that developers should just try to copy the MS look and feel.
The most important aspect of KDE (2.0 expecially) is it's customizability. You can make the think look like windows or the mac, + power users can customize it to be more powerfull.
We need to strive to 100% customizability in GUIs. You can have default templates that look like windows, but the best WM will be the one that is most customizable.
Uh... Gimp's UI is not great. It still needs a lot of work. Don't get me wrong, it's a great and powerful program, but the interface is not up to Photoshop standards yet.
Have you all forgotten already that this whole ILOVEYOU fiasco was all Outlook's fault? It does suck.
But you're missing the point. We're talking about if it's interface is good. I.e. is it a good interface to copy for a unix program like Evolution. Obviously the security will be a lot better on an open source *nix program.
You also have to give some credit to all the users who still open attachements willy-nilly despite the numorous other macro viruses that have been well publicised. Also the people who didn't bother to buy/pirate Anti-Virus software.
I also have a Newton I got for free and I've yet to find a use for it (anybody want to purchase?), but to each his/her own. My point was that there are more controversial issues than the Newton.
What I ment by the QT4 thing was that one of the few good things about Mac OS was consistancy and usability. QT4 has a completly non-standard and non-intuitived interface. This seems to be the direction that Apple is headed in.
Also, Instead of fixing the loop-holes in the old user interface (Example: If you drag a file from the HDD to the desktop it still exists on the HDD and if you drag a file from a floppy to the desktop it is really still on the floppy, so you have two files in the same place that really exist in two different places, sup wit dat?) They've decided to redo it from scratch (ie Aqua) and confuse everybody.
I understand your point, but you are not being fair to Mozilla... it's still pre-beta (despite Netscape 6's beta status) and the latest milestone was a TON faster than the NS6 Beta... By the time it is released I rekin' it will be a small, smooth, stable, fast browser.
And as far size goes, at ~6MB it does almost everything the ~18MB Netscape 4.72 does. That's pretty good if you ask me.
Of course Konqueror could very well kick Mozilla's ass, but I don't think we should try to compare products on the basis of stability and speed when they are still pre-beta.
Getting rid of the newton was controversial? That thing was a beast...
How about deciding to re-neg on os licensing/clone makers? Not releasing specs on the G3/G4 (ie. for BeOS and the like)? Or trashing the only good features of their OS with products like QuickTime 4.0?
Granted, most companies will cross register, but not every single person who owns a dotcom will. Even if 75% do that still opens up a ton of new domain names for individuals, and the more TLDs they add the more choices there will be.
I'm more concerned with individuals beign able to get cool, expressive domain names than companeis fighting over names. Let kmark have.com.shop.buy.whatever... who gives a fuck about kmart anyway?
The key word here is... "Yahoo account"... Do you know for sure that Yahoo hasn't sold your name to every telemarketer on earth? I've had free accounts (at ureach.com) for months and I've yet to get one email... My hotmail account gets a lot only because i use it as my spam account. My private, personal account gets none, and I've even used it to post to listservs...
True... not all spam is free speach. Especially if you have already told someone not to spam you. We already have laws about direct marketing. Why should email spam be special? Why do we need more laws? Why should someone who sends some spam get a huge fine or prison sentence when all they did was waste a few seconds of a bunch of people's time, when someone who sends junkmail has used up millions of dollars worth of natural resources that cannot be replaced? Repeat after me: "No one feels sorry for me because I have to hit the delete button in my email program."
How come so many hacker types are so pro-freedom [free beer, free speach, f*ck MS cause it's not free], but when it comes to spammers they forget about the first amedment and start calling for lynchings? Free speach isn't a utopia. You have to take the good with the bad. Granted, if you tell someone to stop spamming/calling you they should, but I am VERY fearfull of the gov't making a lot of anti-spamming laws. They are the folks that came up with the CDA after all. Why do most hackers want the gov't to stay completely out of their business except when it comes to spam???

Is when will I have PS2 emulation on my PalmIII?

This is funny?
"Ha! Rap sux! They don't even, like, sing or nothing... I listen to Winger! Woohoo!"
You guys are fucking hillarious.
No one in there right mind would make a laptop with standard SDRAM (try SODIMMS instead) and full-size ide and floppy cables.
Also, let's see how much battery life you get with two cellies chugging along in quake3.
Maybe you don't need a degree in web design or perl programming, but you could sure use an english class or two.
