  1. Pinball will never die on Is Pinball Dying? · · Score: 2

Pinball has WAY too many people who have enjoyed playing it that for the next several years it could stay alive based purely on nostalgia. My dad bought 3 pinball computer games last year... If the real tables go away, we will always have computer pinball.

  2. Not long enough on Another Peep From Transmeta · · Score: 1

I think that while these low powered CPU's are great, the real solution will be better batteries. 8-12 hours may seem like a long time, but if you want these things to become truly convenient, it will need to be much longer. A new type of battery could extend the life of electronic devices much more than a CPU that takes less power.

  3. Translator on Portable Translator Devices? · · Score: 1

I have a device exactly like the one you are looking for. It does French, German, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, and Japanese. It also stores a list of common phrases in each language. It also has a horoscope function :) I'm not sure what company makes it, but it was fairly cheap (~$30 if I remeber correctly). The only thing it says on it is 'MODEL 3818'. I hope that helps you out. Good luck finding what you are looking for.

  4. Copyright laws on Intel FDIV bug vs ILUVYOU · · Score: 1

I never heard anywhere about the code being licensed under the GPL...

I hope the guy who made the script catches all those people who are distributing his code! The most likely way to catch all of 'em would be to hire NetPD if they're not too busy with Metallica.

Although I understand how upset he must be about illegal distibution of his code, I really wish he would have included Linux support. It seems like Linux users always get screwed by not being able to use the most popular programs (you cant tell me I-LOVE-YOU.txt.vbs isn't popular)

Intel DID have a bug, but they fixed it.
The I-LOVE-YOU program is just showing users how useful Outlook features can be.

  5. Copyright infringement on I Love You "Virus" Hates Everyone · · Score: 2

I'm sure the author of this program is going to be extremely upset when he finds out about all the people illegally distributing his copyrighted work!

Maybe he can hire NetPD to find out who the people distributing his vb script are.

I hope this gets stopped before it sets more of a precedent for people to just ignore copyright laws.

  6. I didn't think they could do this... on Hasbro And Game-Design Lawsuits · · Score: 3

    http://www.gamedev.net/reference/design/features/m akegames/page2.asp says otherwise.
    From their page:
Something I need to mention is that when you make your Tetris game, you can't call it "Tetris". Tetris is a trademark of the Tetris Company who is owned by Alexey Pajitnov, the creator of Tetris. It is his exclusive right to use the name Tetris, and I believe they may have won a lawsuit saying that you cannot make a falling blocks game with the syllable "tris", as it is obviously playing off the popularity of the of the name Tetris.

However, this means nothing to you if you call your game "The Sky is Falling", or anything without a "tris" in it, as they do NOT own the gameplay, interface, or idea of falling blocks. If you hear anything differently from anyone, tell them you can't own ideas, and if you require further proof you can look up information on this subject at the USPTO (http://www.uspto.gov/ ).

  7. Re:Why MP3? It's not a good format! on Component DVD/MP3 Player for $170 · · Score: 1

MP3 is a very convenient format for many reasons. It is small, so you can have many songs on your computer at once. There is no need to switch CD's. The sound quality is extremely good. Though not as high quality as CD, ost people do not notice the slight differences in sound quality. Also the main reason it is used - MANY songs are available for download in this format.

The expensive sound cards you were talking about would probably make more of a difference to the sound quality than the format of the song. I thought MP3's sounded pretty bad until I got a new sound card and some nice speakers. The sound was awesome.

Go buy a minidisc player and let let everyone else have their "inferior" MP3's.
