People are saying that all this can be used to get surfers habits, well I thought that most of the people that use the internet are either surfers that are on Dialup accounts where there IP address changes each time they login or they are behind a firewall/masquerade that will give a incorrect information.
Wouldn't that mean quite alot of there research is incorrect.
For instance I use my dial up account, I get given a IP, I go do a bit of browsing, at Amazon, PCBware.co.uk etc. Person logs on after I have logged off and is using the same IP addr. but he goes and looks at porn THis means that there info they may have gathered is deffinelty incorrect. The same is applicable if you are on a large network that employs masquerading.
Personally what I think they could be using this for is to see which parts of the Internet are fastest and slowest, they can then use this to sell to ISP, Large compaines etc. I mean why would they traceroute/ping things, because you can't get information about my habits (this is what some people seem to be sugesting here).
I was just wondering does this photoelecric cell, convert the impulse that the cell generates into signals that are recogniseable by the brain. From what I read in the article, th doctors won't know if it has been successful for a couple of months.
What I mean is Did the doctors know that these photoelectric cells generate the same type of signal that the retina generates. It could mean that the people may come to look at something and not be able to recognise it because the signal from the photoelectric cell was just slightly different from that of the retina and therefore giving a totally different Image.
Another thing would this mean that some peoples arguments that the colors you see are different to the colors I see because of the way the eye and brain work (ie My recognition of purple may be different to yours, where I see purple you see green and this would be normal to you becasue your brain has developed to recognise these colors and take them for granted) is flawed becasue surely a photoelectric cell is going to give the same signal when it sees green no matter what. or I am just tottaly confused.
thanks for your time

You point is a valid point I admit it but it comes down to what I have experienced with that product. It's stops productivity of other users on the system. You may have had troubles with other pieces of software and then termed it as rubbish, just because it didn't do specifically what you wanted (please don't mention open source projects as being able to modify it to your own needs, as far I am aware Oracle is pretty much closed source, please correct me if I am wrong). From what I have experienced of oracle is slow unreliable resource hogging applications that have left me with a bitter taste. If it is the admins fault for the unreliable system, then surely oracle should be offering them support or default configs that work efficiently. Thank you for your patience Paul Kinlan -
What if the brain sends signals in parallel, and not in serial, it could seem that they are then sent as analog? I am pretty sure there are many things we don't know about the brain, this could be one of them.... -
Another Reason that microsoft may be buying out game developers, is:
1) make sure they aren't easily able to port there games to other platforms aka Linux,so anything made by the company can only be played on Microsoft specific hardware/Software i.e Xbox or Win2000/ME. (Therefore possibly less reason for people to swap OS).
2) A lot of the companies have very talaented people in, so they could be trying to get them to work closely with the Directx team(ahem..undisclosed ahem... API's) to get a advantage over other game devolpers,or to help devlop new functionality to the API.
I personnaly think they will try to sign more game developers soon to try and help give the Xbox, a better chance of not flopping.
