Is this serious? I don't wanna miss my ArgoUML on the desktop. And if it wouldn't be there, it would be Together. And then there's FOP, Ant etc. I guess I have more Java apps running, than native stuff. If only Classpath would be more complete...
Maybe you don't have to steal them. Think of a place where lot's of people bring their highend hardware and conect it via highspeed network connections. It's called a LAN party AFAIK? Why not run a benchmark in between two games, make it into the top 500 list and maybe accelerate this SETI project a bit...?:)
The Argonauts (the ArgoUML project members) are always looking for contributions and your patch should make it in the next release, if it's of any use. Just nice folks there, and if you have any concept of UML and/or Java, you're always welcome...

Depends on the configuration of your Linux box. 1.3.1 won't run on my box (glibc too old), while I work on a OSS app, that gets more and more patches, that require 1.3.x and won't compile on my 1.2.2 JDK. Maybe ORP + Classpath will save us all...:-)
I was working on ArgoUML SVG export for a while and also had big problems to find crossplatform viewers. IBM's viewer crashed and the Csiro viewer doesn't seem to support any recent SVG features.
Definately very impressing. I wrote quite a few applets and know how tricky it can be, to get them running on all potential platforms. Considering the complexity of the code, these folks did a very good job so far. The applet runs nice on my Linux box (NS 4.0.5pre1). Keep up the good work!
It was just this morning when I looked for a banner program to fund a community I'm about to start. Checked several services, but I couldn't see any internet companies! So it seems to me that there are already more 'traditional' companies placing those ads...
BTW: do you know a good place, where to find webmaster oriented ads? I'd like to build a community for them...
I don't know about performance, but Java looks really cool on OS X. See ArgoUML running on a Mac...

I wish it would look half as good on my Linux box...

Search OSS project hosters like Sourceforge.net for a project that meets your interests, check the mailing list archive if the project is active and level is ok for you, subscribe to the mailing list and talk to the developers about the features you'd like to see in the project.
There's a project going on here (in Germany) to give patients Internet access for several purposes. One is simply to keep contact with friends and relatives. But there are also projects to have live video streamings from classrooms, so kids don't miss so much time in school. It's especially targeted on kids with diseases like cancer that keeps them in hospital for quite a while.
There are opensource projects underway that let you model your app without spending $$$$ before. Take a look at ArgoUML. Get yourself a book like Martin Fowler's "UML distilled".
Sorry! The problem is the JOS website.
ftp://jos.sourceforge.net/pub/jos/grub.img
They have much more than the website indicates, but you have to read the JOS mailing list to find out. There are also detailed instructions on how to run this. I have not managed to retreive a recent CVS snapshot, though. So I gess my JOS sources are also a bit dated here. If you are interested in the messages from the JOS list, you can mail me:
a_rueckert@gmx.net
I've tried to mail you a copy of my posting, since I was not sure if you would read my posting, but it seems the mail addy from your website doesn't work...
HTH,
Andreas
PS: If you actually manage to run any JOS or Classpath related stuff on this chip, please post to these list. I and a lot of other folks would be very interested in hearing about this (or even to help out a bit).
Hi!
I think there's a GRUB boot image that boots JOS with no Linux kernel. Unfortunately you can't do much with it. So you can run JOS in 2 versions: on top of Linux as a JRE or as a standalone OS. Their website has problems. You might take a look at
http://sourceforge.net/projects/jos
. I think there's a misunderstanding in here. You can run Java code natively on your chip, but you'd still need the functionality of an OS. I guess you want to manage your resources somehow. What you can leave out is the translation software, but there are still things like thread implementation etc. So I still think that porting JOS is a good idea. Well I guess most work would go into the adaption of classpath. Replacing the native peerings with Java based peerings that interface with your hardware. Still a lot of work.
Ciao,
Andreas
Hi!
I never had a chance to use such a chip, so pardon my ignorance, but what software do you want to use? I recall a question from the manufactorers on the JOS list about a port to this chip, but are there other Java OS'?
Ciao,
Andreas
Take a look at JScheme. You can embedd it into your Java spps.

Take a look at Silk, a Scheme interpreter as a jar, that you can use in your java apps. I used it for scripting in ArgoUML and liked it a lot.l

Anyone remembers the keyboard with a tiny LCD in each key? I think it was COS manufacturing it. Haven't heard anything about them for a while...
Nokias SDK for their new setop box seems to be free. You only have to pay for the box itself...
Have you seen any software yet? I looked at the site and they have no SDK yet, so I don't know about quality.
With $5 you would be in Norway?
I could live without the PPC/Sparc software, but what about the Java emulator? Running serverside Java on such a machine would kick ass, methinks...
Ok, so commercial TV provides us with good high quality content? Why is it, that I see so many soaps and poor commercials there?

Why not a PLAF that interfaces to the running KDE and adopts it's look?
This is exactly what the x-puter does. It transforms software instructions into hardware configurations.x puter.html
