My bad, forgot to mention military. They way my brain works is that military is a given. The constitution does state "Provide for the common defense" so I see no reason why it would be cut. On the other hand, it also says "Promote general welfare" not "Provide general welfare"

8 years of explicitly promoting a lax regulatory environment for every category of business in the U.S. hasn't seemed to have helped keep jobs in the U.S. at all.

As always, everything is always Bush's fault. This has all been gone over many times here and elsewhere, that this entire recession is based in a housing/property bubble burst. The bubble was created by people who forced lenders to lend to people that were previously thought of as bad investments, by organizations such as ACORN suing banks for being racist (?) in their lending, and people like this guy:

www.youtube.com/watch?v=63siCHvuGFg (I hope this is the right video, cant get to youtube from work)

stopping any attempts to regulate at all costs.

People bitch about the past eight years, when things have only really gotten bad in the last two. We had a continually growing economy from Bush first being elected, through 9-11, and up until Democrats took congress.

I love it whenever we speak of reducing taxes, those on the left cry about "but we need cops and roads and schools" Of course we do!! Its everything else that tax dollars are being spent on that needs to stop.

I can't imagine why businesses are fleeing overseas

The US has on of the highest corporate tax rates in the world, so businesses move overseas to avoid that. If we lower the rates, the businesses would probably come back here, and those tax rates would actually start generating some revenue, rather than forcing business overseas and producing no revenue.

Did you read this girl's email?? It was not spam at all (as I understand spam, part of the problem is everyone has a different definition, you say its the amount of recipients, other posters just call it 'unsolicited commercial mail') it was a legitimate email sent to instructors and asking real questions on the behalf of students. Just because it is sent to multiple people automatically categorizes it as spam?? If this held true, I would not be able to receive emails for mailing lists I have subscribed to. As I see it, users and admins are responsible for managing their own mail servers and inboxes, not bureaucracies.

Keep your laws and rules off my interwebz!!! The growing pains that are apparent on the internet will eventually be solved with technical solutions without the need of those without experience managing networks creating new rules and regulations.

It seems you do not have a concept of individual liberty and economic freedom. When there is one "company" (the gov't) running the rest, options evaporate and we are destined to live nearly identical lives. It is equality via bringing down the ones on top rather than assisting the ones on the bottom learn how to get themselves to the top. The only way to be successful within a system such as this is to get yourself elected/in power, or get a friend elected/in power so you can hopefully become a bureaucrat somewhere. This spits in the face of entrepreneurship and risk-taking to better your own life.

You seem to have a skewed view on what conservatism is. As I see it, it is that government should have limited power, and little or no influence on the lives of it citizens. Government is there for 3 purposes: Provide for the common defense, roads, and schools (I really wish the government had nothing to do with education). Other than those 3 aspects, they need to stay out of everyone's lives and let the people solve their own problems.

The war in Iraq was his main selling point throughout the primaries and most of the general, then he appoints people to his staff that will continue the course that has been set by Bush.

It seems more and more that us (Americans) have been being repeatedly fooled by Democrats and Republicans to believe that there is an actual difference in what they will actually do, but whenever either side gets elected, they just continue the status quo set by the previous administration, continually running up debts, and returning favors that were done for the candidate during the election (look at how many people in congress own stock in the big 3 automakers, no wonder they want to bail them out and have more ownership/power to line their own pockets).

It has moved away from this to attempting to prevent thoughts of people who are into this sort of thing (not the cartoons, the real disgusting kid stuff)because if they are able to see it, they begin to imagine it, and if they imagine it, they want to go do it. Its still looked at as prevention, but instead of preventing the actual abuse, they want to prevent the thoughts that may lead to the abuse.

I agree with everyone here that this is ridiculous, I saw the Simpson's Movie in the theater, and now I am waiting for a FBI agent to bust down my door and arrest me for seeing Bart's junk.

Read some Roy Spencer, he knows his stuff. The way I see science is there is fact and theory, and no one should be making a policy decision over a theory. The warming we are seeing now (I suspect) is due to the Earth's position relative to the Sun and and increase in solar activity (sun spots, flares, etc.) And there really isn't as much CO2 in the air as you think:

    http://www.citizen.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20081120/GJNEWS02/711203981/-1/CITNEWS08

Furthermore, if you do a search on youtube (cant get there from work or I would give you a link) you can find a special from MSNBC from '05 or '03 (I think) that shows a close-up of Gore's infamous hockey stick, that shows a rise in CO2 is result of a rise in temperature, not a cause of it.
