To steal something from last Sundays Simpsons episode "We can build a ladder to put a man of the roof but we can't count something as intergral to our society as votes correctly?" I'm scared to vote again til they get this shit worked out. A voter registration card should be like an ATM card with a magnetic stripe, and voting machines would scan them, and tally all votes on an electronic, private network with heavy security. I'm sick of all the bullshit, and after the Florida affair, I hope you are too.

  16. Re:Road Runner rocks. on AOL Picks Cable ISP Partners · · Score: 1
The reason they cap uploads, if anyone is wondering, is not because of a lack of bandwidth at the headend. Its because of the way you have to modulate the RF to spew fat data over a Cable Television live. For every byte you send up to the headend (from your house) thats FOUR bytes that could of gone downstream! Yes, it simply takes more FREQUENCY space on the cable line to send data up from the consumer. So, since most lusers just browse the web and download stupid pr0n, cap the uploads, and keep the downloads up there :)

Wouldn't this pretty much screw over foreigners and traveling americans who hold on to large amounts of US cash simply because its the most stable and widely accepted currency in the world?

The whole idea made me uncomfortable, and obviously it didn't take place, but it seems a tech like this could be used to implement it rather quickly. I'm sure i'm just being paranoid, but you never know.

Thats funny. Houston's phones pretty much WERE down. The Sprint PCS network was down, along with a number of other cell phone providers, anyone calling most parts of houston even (especially?) on landlines got constant "All circuits are busy" messages. Part of the reason our service was down so long is because of the trouble reaching our people in that area, via ANY means of communication, be it pager, cell phone, landline, or internet.
