You start by asking about long term investments then compare that with short term loss. 100% of all 12 year periods the stock market has grown. Look at the lowest point during the great depression and it was still higher than the market was 12 years earlier.
It was the tax payers in the first place (ie the government) that told the banks they'd cover any bad loans that they made. This was bad policy started in the Clinton era and perpetuated by Bush. Now with more bailouts and stimulus plans President Obama is going to do the same thing.
No it became overvalued because people would pay for it. If people weren't willing to pay it would not have gone up. It has now dropped because people are no longer willing to pay that much for it.
Would you rather have government rationed housing. Sure it's all the same price, but you have to get on the waiting list when demand is high, even if you have extra money and are willing to spend it to get into a house sooner.
Will it fail just like municipal electric, water, sewer, and telephone?
Probably. All of the above, except maybe sewer but I don't pay much attention to that, have failed.
Electricity... better done privately (ohh, but ever deregulation always stirred up some kind of trouble...no, there was transition problems, but better service afterward.) Water... If your only level of success is "Mostly safe to drink" or "Doesn't kill most people" then yes. Otherwise I buy most of my water from private industries. Sewer... Like I said I may give you this one as I rarely hear of the shit backing up to bad. Telephone... Being replaced by commercial cell towers.
Assumptions are all there really is. If there is nothing to assume about a situation then it has already happened. Even then you assume your details of the situation are correct.
Area of Philly = 127 square miles Area of Iraq = 170,000 square miles or Iraq is about 1300 times larger than Philly American Deaths per year in Philly = ~400 (average) American Deaths per year in Iraq = ~571 (average)
If Philly were the size of Iraq American Deaths = 520,000
If Iraq were the size of Philly American Deaths in Iraq less than 1
Your tone sounds like you want to make medical care like the DMV, but visits to the DMV have shown me that I want nothing of the sort. I'm not sure if you're being sarcastic or stupid.
I'm worried about all those too. This store is about H1N1 though. Just because it's not the top of the list doesn't mean it isn't worthy of mass hysteria.

I'll use my facts you use yours and we'll see who can generate more FUD.
You lose the journalism game.
Obviously there isn't a war there.
"...But until then I don't see why it merits the time of our government."
I think that's part of the point. All this other crap going on and we're still arresting people for smoking pot!?!
You assume that reality will continue to exist in the same way that it always has.

Is it really cheaper though? How much of it is subsidized? Not just from city, but from federal funds that you may not ever see reported.

Ohh, come on. That's been debunked. They do pay and collect SS. This doesn't even justify a link.
$100B / 300M people = ~$333 a year.
If the government thinks they can give health insurance at $27.75 a month that freaking scares me at how delusional they really are.
If you are reading this then you are part of the resistance.
Ha, all caps made me first scan/read of that as "Al Gore is the Hypnotoad."
If all roads were perfectly smooth we wouldn't need suspensions in our cars.
yet don't work 100% in real world webpages. Standards compliant be damned if you can't render real pages.
Well enter works... I don't get this stuff at all.
Hmm, just asking for a password. And my keyboard doesn't seem to be working any more. Stupid Ubuntu.
All this hand-waving about H1N1 is stupid and pointless.
This is not the flu we'relooking for....Move along.
WTF are you talking about. If the system isn't perfect than it is completely useless.
Pissing off a Modern US Republican, or any other liberal is a good thing indeed.
I studied this and found that June 4th, 2014 will be the start of the year of the Linux Desktop.
