    Just for fun I went to our bus trip planner for the phoenix area:

    Total trip time: 2 hr 29 min
    Cost $7.00

    My drive time: no traffic 26 minutes, heavy traffic 60 minutes. Total cost about 1 gallon of gas ~$3.50 here.

    Actually there's a bit more that goes into that.

    Jersey shore costs almost nothing to make and gets enough stupid people to watch.

    Firefly cost a small fortune to make and although could have gotten a similar number of stupid watchers the bottom line was not as high.

    Every current country or territory on earth kicked the previous group out and established their own law. In fact your old world has done it several times and it's all well documented. The US was at least nice enough to give them some prime real-estate to do with as they please.

    Unless that project stirs the economy such as the federal highway system or the internet allowing more transactions within the economy that can be taxed and increase actual revenue in the gov.

    Actually it was more so that the rules of the majority couldn't railroad the minority. It was thought that a professional 3rd party could weigh the needs of both sides and come to a fairer decision. With the caveat that it centralizes the corruption point.

    You'd be right about that for me when vista came out. I never bothered to try it, heard it was bad, was fine on XP so just stayed there. After 7 had been out a while I realized that XP was a dead end and finally upgraded to 7. I tried 8 several times and I have to say it is somewhere just north of completely unusable. It is about as stupid as the office ribbon has been. Two years of trying to use that every freaking day and I still hate it every time I have to open an office app or look at email in outlook. Which I guess if nothing else it has forced me to do much more stuff in a cygwin xterm in plain text.

    Stupid stupid stupid. Sorry.
