You are under the missguided beleif that mass is related to gravity. Gravity is not a force. An object will travel in a straight line unless effected by a force. Therefore the object is traveling in a straight line. It is the straight line that is bent (i.e. time space). That is why all objects going at the same velocity are (perceived to be)effected the same by gravity. The reason we think heavier objects are effected greater by gravity is we don't see the bent space. If a heavy ship is going parallel to the ground it takes more upward force to hold it parallel than for a small ship. This is because you are actually constantly diverting it from it's natural straight line, and this requires a greater force for a objects with higher mass.

Everything that happens in a court is recorded and everyone can read it and dicuss it afterwards. The Judge can be critisized. Speech is only restricted before and during the trial. This stops the media making the decisions. There is no restriction as to what can be said inside court. Without this people will discuss things on TV and it all gets silly. The court needs to be unbiased by outside influences. Trial by media is so bad as they will go for the sensational angle everytime. Surely this is obvious!!!

Well we do. There is a second house which has to agree to changes in law and officially the queen has the last line and can refuse any law change (This is never used, I don't know when it was last invoked but not in my life time). The banning of hand guns was a great move for the UK. There is really no justification for them. The fact a few people lost their hobbies was a small price to pay if it stops 1 murder. I do feel sorry for the people who had their 1/2 million pound ancient dueling pistols melted down into scrap.

I think that in general it is quite a good system but it backs you into a corner. An interesting example came up when an American comedian was on an English chat show. He was upset because he had been told he couldn't talk about certain things to do with Louise Woodwood (from a legal point, i.e. he would have been in trouble with the law had he done so). He felt that his right to freedom of speech was being taken away. However the thing he didn't understand was. In the UK he was fine to come on and make comments like you know you baby sitters kill our babies but he couldn't say things about a different trial she was in because in the UK you can not talk about the details of a trial (while it is in progress). This is because the UK recognizes that the right to a fair trial is more important than the right to freedom of speech. In the US you could not make this law because it would breach the constitution and therefore you get OJ Simpson media trials. Which as a joke in a county with a giant liberty statue.

  20. Re:Beg to differ... (Re:The US gov sods all.) on New Federal Government Stance on Internet Taxes · · Score: 1

This is the whole problem with the US. The constitution is just a set of laws written in a different book. These laws are equally likely to be wrong and any society will need to change it's laws as it matures. I am not going to argue the rights and wrongs of the gun laws but it is absurd that just because a law is part of the constitution it is held in higher regard than if it is not. The constitution is just something some people wrote a long time ago to try to make a country run. It is not anything more. It is not the word of a deity, or a god. If I asked a church to change it's rules they would tell me to get lost but if I ask a country I would expect it to consider it on purely logical grounds.
