    Been running Linux for about 8 yrs, I have tried loads of distros and for some reason I have never installed/user songbird. I'm pretty damn happy with amarok now.

    Actually the storyline is that the aliens in the past decade or so have been migrating to Linux, they come back and defeat mankind easily (who 90% of the population use Windows).

    But they learned the lessons from last time and saved the greatest punishment to Apple users (so there is a happy ending)

    Why bother?

    The First film was not exactly any good, it had a terrible script and bad acting, the effects were o.k for the time, but it was no great leap forward like jurassic park seemed a few years earlier. The CGI looked fake and the most of American nationalism on display was awful...

    It is not exactly going to be compared in cinematic terms to the Godfather trilogy is it (they should have missed out Godfather 3)

    SCO won't go after BSD because Microsoft didn't give them funding to do so (unlike Linux)

    MS sees Linux as more of a threat to their core business, no matter what advancements have been made in BSD desktop usage it is perceived to be 'behind' Linux in terms of software/hardware support.

    Who know' s maybe they are waiting to go after Apple one day (who use a version of BSD)

    Even though Google, Domain registrar GoDaddy and now Dell seem to be pulling out of China (in Google's case its pretty certain) there's one Company that has no qualms about staying.

    Good oldie Microsoft has said they have no problem following the countries laws.

    This is strange considering Ballmer's obvious aversion to communism
    MS' Ballmer: Linux is communism (although I would argue that china is not nor ever has been a true communist state)
    Lucky China...

    You are correct, my great grandfather escaped the Jewish persecution during Stalin's time in power when it was official (not public) policy - to Scotland.

    Although by the time that Brin was a lad is was not official policy any longer the effects of state persecution against any minority will take a long time to wane

    Just think what the general American (and UK) populations perception of Muslims is now and how long it may take to normalise.

    When I was 6 years old Margaret Thatcher was in power, I remember thinking "what an evil bitch". In my case it may have helped me move politically as far away from the right wing in politics as possible.

    It is a bit different, with Redhat at least ALL their code is open, thus allowing community distributions like Centos.

    Personally I hate Centos, it has ancient software (php 5.1.6!!!!) that is not much use to anyone. It is always Centos servers that have issues with updates (never debian/ubuntu)

    I've no idea who 'loses' but i'm sure Microsoft search share will go up if google pulls out . It's not like Microsoft will have any issues doing deals with any totalitarian regime, after all they get their orders from the murky depths of hell itself.

    I hope that when google do pull out they re-direct all searches to pages of 'missing history' and goatse man at random.

    (Just heard on Channel4 news uk : Google have stopped censoring results!!! )

    Anyway good one Google !

    At least the Chinese population will get a taste of internet freedom (or at least a freer idea)

    Also this company is out the USA, do they have crazy software patent laws too.

    O.K they are doing it for their own benefit, but the side effect of that could be to encourage China to prevent censorship I personally think that repressive regimes should be removed from the internet entirely. (although that would have included the USA 2001-2009)

    Although your right on security, it should be mentioned that the small malware that does exist doesn't generally ever spread to another Linux machine . The only piece of major malware last year was a screensaver on gnome-look, again this could not spread to another Linux machine - this also involved you putting in your root login to 'install' it. Most Linux servers that are hosting Malware only effect Windows desktop users. Only last week someone got a Trojan on their Windows machine at work (we can choose Linux or Windows), this caused everybody else to do extra work while he cleaned his machine up.. Rather than pay this Net-Tax to Microsoft, surely they should be fined ?
