Likely, my ass! It is certain! Oregonians will file the initiative within days of passage, and will have the signatures within two months. Then the voters will repeal the bill by a two-to-one vote. I'll bet 1985 Landcruiser on it.
Yes, details. Figuring out the differences between old cars without sensors, new cars with sensors, in state drivers, out of state drivers, and in state cars driver out of state is going to make everyone crazy. A gas tax is simple. Maybe it isn't totally fair, but it comes pretty close to taxing vehicles based on the damage they do to the roads in that it taxes heavy vehicles more because they use more fuel. The bottom line is an incredibly complicated new tax to replace a simple old tax. Maybe they should just increase the gas tax..
You are right that they are not paying, but they aren't damaging the roads either. A light compact electric car does very little damage to the roads compared to a large truck or a super-sized SUV.
Additionally, state governments and the US government have been subsidising electric vehicles for a while based on the principle of weaning us off of our petroleum habit. This has been a good thing. Allowing electric cars to dodge the fuel tax a little longer doesn't seem like a bad thing to me. It helps promote electric cars.
All of this is probably moot anyway. Oregon has a great voter initiative process. The citizens of Oregon have a long history of not being pushed around by Salem bureaucrats. The second they pass a law tracking cars, an initiative will be filed to repeal it. It will pass by a two to one margin.
Shop around for a good deal on a lot of fifty phones. A four year old will lose them, drop them in the toilet, throw them away, throw them at the dog, and every other conceivable way to get rid of a phone because he's four years old and cannot comprehend the notion of external value. So, if you are hell bent on doing this, buy at least fifty phones so you won't spend all your time shopping for another phone. I assume you must be rich to even be asking this question in the first place.
Actually, I was not trolling. I am seriously disturbed by Obama's warmongering. I did vote for him, but I am beginning to question that decision. His proposal to attack Syria is very disturbing. The Snowden revelations are just as disturbing. Obama has done more to disrupt peace than any Nobel PEACE Prize winner should ever be allowed to do. Snowden, on the other hand has done a great service to the planet, which really is worthy of a Nobel Prize. I'm sorry you thought I was trolling. That was not my intent.
Yes, and it takes some cojones to set up the system that spies on ALL americans in nearly plain view of the President and many in congress. Surely they all knew it would someday be made public and the shit would hit the fan. Face the fan and smile.
I might be missing something, but I don't see anything magic about this device that a $3 HDMI cable won't do. Anything I can display on my computer monitor goes to my TV through the cable. No apps, no android, no google, no wi-fi, and no $35. It will display anything, no matter what file type, as long as my computer can display it.
Help me out. How is this better than an HDMI cable?
The problem with treason is that it sounds like it might be a political crime, which makes it more likely for a nation to give him political asylum. This really complicates extradition. Of course, it is a political crime, but the US Government doesn't want to go there right now.
Seriously, what would the government do if Google just went ahead and released the information? I may be naive but I can't really see how they would get in trouble that they couldn't get out of. They have lawyers and lots of money, so why not assert their rights as surrogates for the millions of us than can't for one reason or another. For that matter, what would happen if they just refused to surrender to requests for blanket information?
Actually, the voters DID vote for the candidate that asserted that more transparency was needed in government, it just turned out that he didn't really mean it. In addition to tweedledee and tweedledum there are dozens of third party candidates that have mostly not been corrupted by the political system yet. Usually voting for a third party is a wasted vote, simply because they almost never win, but that doesn't have to always be the case. There have been points in political history where the voters became frustrated with the two party system and anointed a third party. (whigs?)
In any case, if you think the two parties are equally bad, at least pick a third party for the protest value. Someday..... who knows?
The messages I got were transparently bogus. Why couldn't Verizon and ATT just block the messages? Or perhaps the question is why wouldn't they stop them? Is it because they collected 20 cents from every message, times maybe many millions of messages? Well, they do collect from anyone without a text plan at least.
I often see that information on gas pumps in Oregon and other places. I don't know if it is required, or out there as an FYI. Also, remember that these gas taxes were mostly established before the price went up to $3+ per gallon. If the taxes were as a percentage of the price, they would be far higher than they are now.
Finally, gas taxes are one of the few taxes where the benefits seem obvious to most people. Imagine what life would be like without safe bridges, road resurfacing, and the other things that fuel taxes pay for. Our road taxes are a pretty good investment.
Poker certainly has chance elements to it, but the game involves choices as a hand progresses. You can call, raise, or fold depending of your assessment of the hand and your opponents. Those are choices that take skill if you plan to come out ahead. Make bad choices and you lose overall. Make better choices than your opponents, and you win overall. It is mostly, but not totally, a game of skill.
I totally agree. I have been refusing to take pennies for several years. I'll take some from the penny bowl, or just refuse them. The effort to handle them is way not worth it. I understand it costs more than a penny to make a penny anyway. I really don't understand why a major retailer hasn't started rounding down all purchases.
While I'm at it, what about the.9 cent gas prices. If pennies don't make sense, tenths of cents make even less sense.
Repealing the PATRIOT Act has never been something the Democrats or Obama have seriously pursued. In fact one of the last acts of Senator Obama was vote for The FISA Act, which allows the government to spy on pretty much anyone it wants to with no court oversight. Obama has signed a couple renewals of the PATRIOT Act. Obama has never been a friend of these kinds of civil liberties. I'll probably vote for him, but I'll have to hold my nose.

Let's take Obama's Nobel Prize away and give it to Snowden.

If this is all it takes to get on the "enemies list", I am proud to be on that list. Sign me up.

FYI, the petition to pardon Snowden is just a few thousand short of the 100,000 mark as of midday on Friday. There is still time to sign. Probably a waste of time, but it might be worth it. https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/pardon-edward-snowden/Dp03vGYD

Great idea. My neighbor keeps changing his password. This would be a lot easier.

Turn it off.
I would mod this up if I had any points. You got this right. Some unemployed scientists are gaming Kickstarter to create a job for themselves.
That'll keep the bastards busy. Is that your email sig? Wouldn't it be fun if every email message contained all of that?

You got it right. ITS A GAME. If it matters that much to you, play it anyway you want.
Hey Tim, I signed the petition. Only 24,997 signatures to go. Good luck with that.

I wonder who they say will win the election next month.
