  1. Re:So *that's* why we've got such a good economy! on Confirmed: U.S. Spies On European Corporations · · Score: 2

"On a more serious note, I think it's high time that people realized once and for all that U.S. spying is NOT to combat "terrorism" or whatnot, and realize that the privacy of hundreds of millions of people is being routinely violated."

I don't care how much you try to make these agencies seem like faceless and evil entities, real people work hard to try and make the US safe from terrorism. Obviously not all of their activities are used to track terrorism, but your statement is still a ludicrous exaggeration.

"Frankly, if I ran any of these European countries, you'd bet your ass that I'd immediately condemn this spying as a hostile act of aggression, and work out treaties with other nations explicitly naming any further spying as an act of war, and military alliances to give the treaties TEETH."

So you are advocating another World War and millions of casualties because some French company no longer has a secret anymore and loses a few hundred thousand francs in profit?

Many have pointed this out before, and I'll point it out again. European agencies routinely spy on American companies, especially the French, who do it quite blantantly.

Your post is totally sensationalistic and completely ridiculous.

I always find it offensive when government agency tries to take away MY rights because of "the children". I could care less if some 13 year old boy sits at the computer and looks at porn, saves him the time and expense of getting it in hardcopy. I can't believe that viewing the naked human form will cause so much psychological damage that the government feels the need to restrict my right to free communication.

Personally I don't think the new management is going to try to mess with the site's actual content, if they read any of the comments to any story dealing with censorship they'd know they would just shoot themselves in the foot if they tried anything to alter the content.

I guess those reasons are pretty decent, it's just that I don't consider a 486 "usable" considering you can buy a Pentium MB w/ chip for probably $100 or less. Also, a few years back I ran Mosaic on 486sx/25 with Win 3.1 and that ran very fast.

I don't understand why w3m and lynx are even still being developed. It does not require much processing power or hard drive space to have a decent graphical browser. Bandwidth is not really an issue for normal web pages and you can turn off the images in a graphical viewer if you wanted to anyways. I can't see a situation where I'd want to use a text-based browser instead of my normal browser...can anyone enlighten me?

You can call yourself whatever you want, but I wouldn't call myself an American if it weren't for the fact that's the NAME of our country! The United States portion of the name is irrelevant, I think Mexico's official name is the United States of Mexico or something to that effect, but I don't refer them as "United-Stater's", that doesn't make any sense, that's a description of the government and is not the country's actual name. If a central american country had named themselves America then they would be Americans but they didn't, so shut the hell up!

The NSA isn't a rogue agency...they must disclose everything they do to Congress (more specifically where they are spending money). There are members of Congress that do know what goes on, but it's kept to a few members because of the security hazards. As to the $0 funding, yeah, I'd love the NSA to shut down so terrorists can set bombs in our country and so our military would be at a disadvantage during a war :P
