I find it sort of odd that mp3.com is being sued when scour.com has got to be the easiest way to download any mp3 (all illegal of course). Obviously, the argument they would make is that they don't actually have the mp3s on their servers, they only provide the links, which might stand up in court. However, scour.net is partnered with idrive.com and has features where you download the mp3s to an i-drive, so it seems like i-drive could easily be sued.
It seems to me everytime an alleged hacker is caught the media seems to just assume they are guilty. In the newspaper I see mafiaboy described as the hacker that did the DoS attacks. Meanwhile, on the front page I see a story about an ALLEGED shooter who shot and killed two people in front of a room full of people. I guess some guy who kills two people in front of a room full of people deserves a greater presumption of innocence then some 15 year old kid who brought down a couple of web sites.
The media also seems to imply that these attacks had to do with some sort of great computer skills; any person with basic computer competence could do these attacks, most of us just aren't stupid enough to actually do it:P
Exactly, why play a rehash of Quake II when you can play something really innovative like Thief II? Well, Thief I was innovative, Thief II just copies Thief I, but it's still good....
You're making the assumption that we'll be fighting against a modern army. Try to remember that the US only attacks countries that have no chance to defend themselves.
I actually find having a white background hurts my eyes when I stare at it for a long time, my IRC client is black background with white text because I can't stand the brightness for extended periods. Oh yeah, and didn't you ever use DOS?:P
There is no way I'd ever buy any VHS tape no matter how much I enjoyed the movie, if the movie company refuses to release a DVD that's their problem. I might add I wouldn't buy The Phantom Menace even if it were on DVD now because the movie was really not very good.
Despite Britain's seeming unwillingness to change their antiquated laws, if the large corporations start to get hurt from this terrible libel system they can apply far more pressure than the common man. Money is more important to most politicians than nearly anything else and the large companies who control this flow of money could end up being reform's greatest ally.
By 2025 we'll have an entirely robotic army; these patches won't be needed since there will be no human soldiers....until about 2050 when the robots inevitably revolt and start to acquire a taste for human flesh.
I assume that because of your elitist attitude about how the Internet should be that you've been around for a while. I've been on the internet for about six years and was using my C64 to connect to local BBS', so I'm not a newbie by a long shot.
I would bet that if the government made a proposal to censor "morally offensive material" (i.e. CDA) on the web you'd be all up in arms (as would I), yet here I see you saying that you believe that the Web should exactly the way you want it. You even go so far as to say that it is OK for idiots with basic computer skills to illegally crash corporate web sites.
"All these contribute to is bandwidth probelms, and we need to go back to when they weren't part of the web."
That's got to be one of the lamest excuses I've ever seen. Bandwidth problems? If you are referring to your own bandwidth, turn off your Java and Flash plug-in, simple as that. If you are referring to the internet in general you have a very weak point there also; the companies that run flash and java apps are going to purchase the amount of bandwidth they need. The internet would have less bandwidth (no real change in free bandwidth obviously) if the companies didn't have those things.
I think your real problem is that you got on the internet early and now you're upset that you are no longer one of the elite few. You just want the computer-illiterates off the net and you can only do this by removing the corporations.
My final point is this: IF YOU DON'T LIKE CORPORATE WEB SITES YOU DON'T NEED TO VISIT THEM!
Considering that CDs can cost as little as a few pennies to produce, I can't possibly see a reason to release anything in vinyl form especially since a huge amount of people don't even have a functioning record player.
Highly regarded by the big business that employs them, but not by the common man. I'm sure the families of the people they killed during the strikes of the early 1900s would agree.
First of all, I'm not the one who brought religion into this debate, which is completely unnecessary and offtopic. However, since we're at the name calling stage now I feel the need to reply.
I note you referred to me as arrogant, but you are the arrogant one; I don't try to push my views on you while you are insisting I believe in God. I told the guy to go away because his post IS offtopic and I hate pious people who insist on spouting their rhetoric whenever they get the chance. I didn't use the Black Hole article as a chance to further advance my atheist cause, and I still don't see what the guy's point is...does not seem logical to think that Black Hole's could not exist if God does, they are not mutually exclusive.
In conclusion, go away and worship God and you can sit in heaven while us unbelievers burn in the pits of hell forever! I think that's a fair agreement, don't you?
Go away and worship your precious God, I could care less, but I don't want to hear about it in relation to a story about black holes. Someone moderate that post down as offtopic...
Definetly more reasonable then your first point, I actually agree with most of what you say, I was just being my friend's (Satan) advocate. Anyways, I might add that Europe is already doing exactly that, the European Union has a larger GNP and larger population than the United States. In the future I'd be more concerned with the EU when they finally get their act together.
Why must people constantly attack Waterworld? I watched it again a couple weeks ago, and though I find nothing impressive about the movie, I also found nothing to warrant such abject hatred of the movie that nearly everyone seems to have. Anyways, I saw M2M (M&M?) yesterday, I must agree that it was quite horrible.

I'm a C++ fascist. If it isn't C++ it sucks.

The business market really is the sweetest of them all, businesses don't care about price as much as end users and they upgrade regularly.

Pretty simple to solve that...many terminal apps allow you to type in a text box at the bottom of the screen before sending it to the server.
It's not like an ethernet card would be expensive, I could go buy one for $10 at the store. Sony could get a lot better deal than that I'm sure....
...but I don't think I've ever used a laptop outside....

This isn't supposed to be Extreme Hiking or something, most of the people who are gonna be there will probably be horribly out of shape.

Making fun of "hax0rs" has been overdone so much that anyone who does it is lame themselves.

Can we get rid of the term e-Business too? Having to hear that a hundred times a day makes me want to die.

BRAVO!!!!
I think it's sort of amusing how they use the term "Open Source Software" in English instead of it's translation into German.
