it's H320-H323 so probably only a big stereoscopic grabber, it works over ISDN, and basically it's probably grabbing 2 video signals, transmitting it seen like a standard image on the H261 (or 263?) codec, and on the other end it generates something stereo, still if it's H320 compatible, it's not a big deal, limited resolution (so if you have to cramp 2 signal to get stereo, bwah) and so on.. I'd rather like the other pointed out in scientific america with the glasses and big screen.

And god, do I hate people saying HOLOGRAPHIC when it's AUTOSTEREOSCOPIC.

Oh ok I'll install NetBSD for my dad and let him see live webcast, install his TD banking/trading software, and play nice games on it.

Oh wait... your best os in the world can't do that...

Geez, I remember when I lived religiously for my amiga and nothing else was better (well at least BACK THEN nothing else was better :)))) ) but today, call windows2000 a piece of crap, and you're way off... I've installed redhat 7 on a 1.3Gig hard drive, funny, when you want to install a server version, it won't even auto partition the god damn drive, NOT ENOUGH SPACE, and you people blasted MS's installations that would kill hard drive space? I can fit WIn2k installation on that same drive. And strangely enough, I have a buttload of supported hardware, stable system and yes, it's not PERFECT, but nothing is, nothing will ever be, PERFECTION is a SUBJECTIVE term, and there's what... 6 billion opinions on the surface of this planet?

I don't want this to sound like a troll, and I am fully aware that Redhat is a distribution and you can fit linux on a nice floppy (or anyways, a functionning linux on a 40 meg hard drive) just like you can strip some windows component (like win9xlite software for example, that kills about everything useless in win9x to fit in an embedded system for one application example).

Point is, hate microsoft, wish them death, but they've managed to pull out something NO OTHER OS DID, broad hardware support/drivers, broad gaming platform, broad buisness platform, broad professionnal platform (cad/3d/NLE video) *ALL IN THE SAME OS*. I think people that don't acknoledge that should go in a cult and commit mass suicide because you're seeing only what you want to see.

As for the bad buisness practice, well I think the nicest settlement for both sides would be dirt cheap (or free) windowsXP upgrades settlement (that, if XP is worth it :) ) that would cost them a lot, but wouldn't kill them, and the user would finally have something that works better than win95, assuming he's still running 95 :).

I don't say they should shoot and run free, but wishing them death, I'm sorry people but there's *NO* alternative platform that brings everything that M$ brings altogether. There independant platform for gaming, there's independant platform for NLE editing, and 3D animating, there's other platform for offcice work, but.... think about it seriously, think about no windows at all tomorrow morning...

They've managed to come a long way since windows 1.0, I hated 3.11, sold my pc and kept my Amiga 2000, but seeing Windows 2000 today, and actually use it a while, with good drivers and everything to eliminate the "stability" issues caused by 3rd parties, you get a great stable system, that isn't PERFECT (memory pig is one weakness) but DOES the job very well. It took them long, they copied over a lot of things that already existed, hate them for that, but at least I can enjoy the idea that would have probably ended somewhere and never surface anyways.

I am glad seeing a BIG player in the electronic industry validating the current technology, yes it's not the classic amiga line on steroids, but hell I sure would like to see the name given credit if anything cool comes out of it and see amiga have it's right place in history... apple has a big part when you go see movies like pirates of sillicone valley or you look at documentaries about computer, fact is, you often never hear about the fact that the C=64 at one point had the biggest market share of personnal computers at home (well you hardly hear from commodore at all). Now if amiga would succeed in any ways, oh NOW people would know that a certain machine existed in 85 and was doing most of the stuff they are doing today (video editing, 3d, etc etc).

I haven't *NEEDED* any microsoft product before windows 95 got popular, I didn't *NEED* to conform to word for sending resume over email etc etc, I could do my presentations with Scala (god powerpoint sucks, have you ever tried scala?, do my 3d with lightwave, do my word processing with final writer, and heck, I had TV out in 85, I had smooth video while my pc was jerking like h*ll even in 256 colors. So if amiga succeeds in any way, maybe it'll have it's right place in history as well and give Jay Miner some credits, and also "set us up the joy" :)

Amiga is superior for 2D gaming, well depends, I didn't see any starcraft or Red Alert or the newest incarnation of Worms. So it's a matter of taste... if you mean "2D arcade games" now you're getting more specific and I'll totally agree, project-X on PC sucked bad, the "feeling" isn't the same, the sprites looks "solid" on amiga while on PC most 2D games have that "post-it"-sprite-look over a background.

You play a multiplayer game with 20 people at the same time, how the HECK are you supposed to crunch the data enough so you can send position/movement/expression/ammos location/chat/yadi yada at at least 10 intervals per second in a 2.0K/sec connection? it's just a physical barrier, compression? extra loads of processing power? c'mon...

It's like saying, I want to be able to have 20 bots in Q3A on my celeron 300A, at some point you can't do anything about it, unless of course you concentrate a shitload of ressource to optimise the code even more, but then again you miss shipping date and you'll probably miss the "low system requirement is unlimited" target too.

I remember when I was on my 300 bauds modem, and I was downloading games on my C64 40 minutes to download something like 200 blocks.. while I could do it tons faster with a 1200 bauds. Of course when I arrived on PC with my 2400 bauds I've learned some protocols were faster than some others (well on C64 you had what, Punter and X-modem? :) ) Point is, even if you'd optimise and crunch and this and that, at some point you'd have to accept the fact that your hardware was limited and you needed UPGRADE.

I'm sure game developpers aren't stupid enough to not try to crunch the most data possible so dialups can enjoy as much as possible. You want to get the most people to buy your game no? Look at Q3A for example, I remember some .plan updates about optimizing the network data even more (motion prediction algorythms)

I don't want to piss people off by saying that, but take for example doom 3, it'll run on a tnt-2 (poorly and slowly) if I recall what John said, and if you want to have the full featured effects and jaw-dropping graphics, you'll need a GF3, same goes for network, you *CAN'T* have broadband playability (i.e. 20 people at the same time) on a non-broadband connection. Live with it, or upgrade, if you can't, well, play with less people, it's still manageable, if you claim you're stucked on 3 players with your 28K8, how about upgrading it to 56K for a start... else you sound like someone complaining that pages load slowly on 14k4... :)
