Some suggestions that I didn't see posted yet (includes fantasy - you won't be able to separate them a lot of times!): 'Hardwired', 'Aristoi', 'Ambassador of Progress' - Walter Jon Williams 'Damnation Alley', the 'Amber' series - Roger Zelzany the 'Moreau' series - S. Andrew Swann the 'Dorsai' series (and others) - Gordon R. Dickson The 'Saga of the Exiles' series - Julian May the 'Deverry' series - Katherine Kerr 'The Fionavar Tapestry' (and others) - Guy Gavriel Kay the Chanur/Merchanter/Alliance books - C.J.Cherryh the 'Berserker' books - Fred Saberhagen 'Santiago' - Mike Resnick the Greg Mandel books and the 'Night's Dawn' trilogy - Peter F. Hamilton 'The War Against the Chtorr' series - David Gerrold the 'Deathworld' trilogy - Harry Harrison As always - read them first yourself; some of these are pretty hard edged and may not be suitable for your child. They've been mentioned already, but I'll recommend them without reservation as _must-reads_: the 'Honor Harringtion' series - David Weber the 'Vor' series - Lois McMaster Bujold and Anne McCaffrey is perfect for a juvenile audience. That lot should get you hooked! (Remember, the first taste is free....)
Sure they had a choice!!! They could have paid the lady for the domain. She didn't do anything wrong in this case. She was using the domain for a practical purpose and it didn't dilute AOL's trademark. This sucks because AOL and NSI will get away with it. They are way wrong about this and should be stopped!!! David slew goliath.
Linux is easy to install if you know what your doing. The worst part about a redhat install is partitioning the drive and thats easy to. It always pays to do a little research before installing any new Unfamiliar OS.
I admit linux has aways to go before someone like my father or mother could install it however that time is coming.
Gateway and Compaq are big OEM's. Compaq is first on the list and Gateway is third. All of them Now sell AMD Processors in systems. Check your facts before you open your hole!!
You know I have been using windows for a long time now and am actually a MCSE. I'll tell you all this...I have now been using Red Hat's distribution for 2 months now and it's far less buggy then Windows anything. I'm very impressed with what has happened. I reciently got a consulting job with a company that wants to intall a 40 node network. They want a stable system that doesn't require much administration(once it's set up) and is cost effective. I sold them on linux instead of Windows and guess what....They love it and so do I. Plus I made a good profit on the deal. I'm a convert. Windows is good for certain enviroments but linux is the future!!!
SMP willl be in the K7 to be released later this year,June or July I think. The K6-3 only has had the cache improved which help it greatly but the FP unit is the same as the K6-2. For a new FP unit you'll have to wait for the K7. I beleive the K7 will be AMD's first intel killer(if there is such a thing!!
It's more than likely that Microsoft asked Dell to support linux to help support their contention that there is competition in the OS market. It will be interesting to see if Dell really supports linux or if it's just offering it to help their buddy. Personally Wintel is getting old I propose Windell. Well see if I'm right. I ope I'm not!!
