I submit there is a point at where a device can be too light and thin with the way we need to interact with them. For me, the critiques over the iPhone 5 were right; it is too light. I would fumble that all around, though if it was flexible, perhaps it wouldn't matter but it seems you're just trading one problem for another. (That and call me when batteries become paper thin, let alone electrical contacts that are still good after being flexed a few tens of thousand times.)

In-dash nav may be a ripoff sure, but on most vehicles its screen is much larger than a normal stand alone GPS plus it's integrated into the dash. Not great for actual directions (phone or another GPS do better) but very nice in seeing where you are, which side streets go thru, etc. Not sure I could justify it on a new car but I love having it on the car we have over the little GPS device we have in the SUV.

The only way around it is to flash a new OS on it. Not doable by most non-tech people. Very frustrating esp when my devices will sometimes connect to the guest account, so much so I just turned it off.
