I was driving along in the Slashdot Cruiser with my main squeeze, Natalie Portman, reading this on my RedHat Linux 7.0 (woohooo!) laptop (which is the ONLY way to read Slashdot without crashing - I'm talking MS Windoze, not the tinkling of glass as you go through the windshield of the Slashdot Cruiser) when I spot a beowulf cluster of ex-Metallica fans wearing Napster T-shirts and one was carrying a sign that read, "Metallica - I used to be there biggist fan". I roll down the window on the Slashdot Cruiser (it's nice to know that some Windows actually work reliably) and yell, "Hey! Who do you think you are? Commander Taco?" Natalie Portman thought that was hysterical. She likes my sense of humor, but I'm sure that story's been posted before. I love it when she laughs and felt inspired to write a haiku, but then I realized that if this post were any longer someone might mistake me for Jon Katz, so I decided to stop right here.

I don't think Nader has the proverbial snowball's chance to win the election, but prior to reading his letter to the other candidates regarding privacy I had felt that he had a certain integrity the major players lacked. While some of what he mentions is certainly true, I don't think the US is going to see people this year losing jobs or being denied medical coverage due to potential problems associated with genetic screening. This is a scare tactic that has little bearing on the truth. Do I think we could be headed in this direction? Yep. But not this year, or the next.

I think you should believe someone from the outside, who has no real reason to prefer one sider over the other, and no religious reasons either ...

And who would that be? You certainly don't sound like a neutral party. Just because the other party lives there now, they grew up in the US and likely have a perspective different than those who grew up in the region. Additionally, just because someone is an Israeli, does not mean that they are religiously inclined at all. The most balanced accounts seem to indicate there is fault on both sides. There are organizations (this one is local to me) that teach you how to make the conversion. I did a quick Google search for both Global cooling and warming and couldn't find anything that strictly met your request for either position. There are plenty of editorials on both sides as well as numerous articles from respected (and not-so-respected) publications.

There seem to be two vocal extremes on the issue and at least one group of self-described 'contrarians' that lie somewhere between. The gist of it is that the data is not conclusive and warming seems to beget cooling which in turn begets warming. There is ample evidence of anthropogenic influence on climate with some trends and anomolies. (gee, sounds like a weather forcast in terms of ambiguity)
