I will keep this short as i know it could get very long winded.
You mean to tell me that Data, La Forge, Obrian, Scotty, and all the rest arnt included?
And what about R2D2. If i needed to reroute a the main power supply i would call on him.
I have seen some of these hackers.
They are rare and the ones I know weren't entirely motivated by doing the right thing but also by the personal glory.
In alt.hackers.malicious about a year ago a group of hackers broke into and shut down a number of kiddy porn sites. The most famous site bing
NAMBLA.org. They took there inbox and handed it off to the FBI and to CPS. CPS emailed them back with a very amusing email that to sum up said:
hacking is bad
pedophilia is bad
hacking pedophilia sites is bad
but if you are going to do it again let us know.
It dose seem odd that with a OS that has had this much development in embeded devices and mini distros built to run on something as small as a system with 8 mg of ram and a 386 that it takes years to put together a peice of hardware that can take advantage of it.
but instead they make proto types of devices that cost as much/more as a 33->133mhz lapptop on ebay but dont have half the usfullness.
I have seen reports of about 5 Linux handhelds in the last year.
I have as of yet to see one of these in real life.
Until I can walk into the local electronics or office supply store and pick one up it's as good as vaporware.
When is this one or Yopi or the others going to announce a distribution contract with Office Depot, Staples, Future Tronics, hell even RadioShack, I will pay closer attention to what it can do. Because until they can produce them in that kind of bulk I wont be able to afford them.
TSR was bought by WOTC a while back.
And now D&D will be a Hasbro company.
The only good thing I can see coming out of this is main stream acceptance of D&D by the crowd who think that it causes kids to kill each other.
And maybe if we are lucky a new cartoon.
I played Tragic the Addiction back 3rd -> 4th editions.
I am now 6 years clean.
I played D&D befor that. I am now 8 years clean.
I enjoyed both of these games as an addalcent.
I still have $2000 worth of books siting in my closet in case I ever play again.
The idea that if you shelter a kid they will turn out well balenced is about a silly as people thinking that a utopia is acheivable.
If utopia's existed then it would only take on person without the right balance of thorazine to destroy the hole civelization.
This dosn't come as too big of a suprise.
In my opinnion until you can get 50% of the population to understand what "broadband"
is you won't have a markitable population that will be educated or enough to understand the
differances between a webpad and a palm pilot.
I knew that odds were I would never see a kerbango until every computer came with a
built in ethernet port. Tell people its a raido
and they are interested. Tell them they can get over a hunderd didgatal chanels and the love it.
Tell them that they have to install a eth card and they don't want the trouble.
I would love to see any and all of these gadgets
in the market place but untill you can produce them cheap enough to find there way into a Pic-N-Save (something like Walmart meets a 99 cent store) a standerd has not been established. And with out a standerd the unwashed masses can't
wrap their hands/walets around it.
There nothing worse then trying to get information from a site and having the whole site renderd unusable by "modern code".
There was a time when I had no option but to use
my laptop to surf the web and with its small harddrive X was just too big to use just for the benifit of a GUI browser.
links/lynx/w3m were all incapible of viewing the site of the manufacture of the laptop.
What was I to do?
I was to say that I would never buy that brand of computer again.
If they can't display in plain text then they lose all my buissness.
Txt browsers are the fastest means of getting to real information on the web without all the distraction of corp america trying to get me to click on this and win that.
Altavista was even so nice as to know that you were using a txt browser and give you a readable page. Google looks great in txt or GUI.
I upgraded to bash about a year ago and i have
to tell you that it is by far my favorit GUI (grey user interface".
It is realy the only way for a person to realy get to learn how the os is realy put together with out every thing being done for you by user friendly, no brains required, GUI apps

75% of all stocks trading at under $5 will be out of busness in 10 years.
To barrow from the motly fool would you rather have one share of berkshire hathaway inc BRK.A
Or would you like 12,000 shares of redhat RHAT
