GNU emacs version 20.x amd under does not support color syntext highlighting on the command line as of yet.
Version 21 will do so. If you have a nntp server with a long post life you can find a copy of gnu emacs 21 that i posted to alt.binaries.test about a week ago.
If I get a few requests by email I will post it again.
Or you can do a search on google.
If they put mice haveing sex in 0g then I might just be tempted to get a GUI just to see that.
But then I would also have to install one of those pointy clicky things as well.
I got a barcode of my SSN once. The tat artist would not do it because it would blead and be unreadable by a scanner in just a few years.
What we need to do is embed a non degradable surfice into the flesh of every person so that we can get some reliable scans.
Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers.
For there is no power but of God: the powers that
be are ordained of God. Whosoever therefore
resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of
God: and they that resist shall receive to
themselves damnation. For rulers are not a terror
to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then
not be afraid of the power? do that which is
good, and thou shalt have praise of the same: For
he is the minister of God to thee for good.

On a funny note does any one know where I can get an mp3 of him saying these things?.
The first time I did acid I was listening to the audio version of "Brief History".
Don't try that at home..

Inside a black hole "You would be crushed like spaghetti".

2.99 a year? How much money are they paying for their bandwidth?
When I was younger ( about 7 months ago) I would spool 20 gig of MP3's a day from the nntp.
I know that wasn't cheep for the ISP to offer and I can only emagin how much its going to cost them. Can some one explain how they can do this that cheep and still pay any form of royalties?
I started out with worldnet and moved up to
Cox@Home when I switched to rolling my own cigs
and takeing the money I saved and investing it in
broadband. I new from the begining that I was
not going to be with worldnet forever so I got a
yahoo email address and used their pop3
forwarding to point to my att.net address.
Then the day came for me to change over. I went
over to yahoo and reset the forwarding to my new
@home address and as far as anyone who did not
look at headers was concerned I had never made
the move.
Looks like next year I will have to do the same
thing.
Too bad I will have to resync the news groups as
the nntp servers change. Well we cant win them
all.
I normaly get one set of legos a year around November as a pre-X-Mass gift to my self.
I stand there for a long time trying to figure out which set gives the best long term usablity in genaric bricks.
I have found as you did that the Star Wars sets seem to be consistantly the ones I go for.
They just have more usable peices for the price than any other set.
As a slack user I agree with you 100%.
People who use slack do expect your average newbie to use slack unless they realy, realy want to know how linux works.
However, in timem he will be ours. Oh yes he will be ours.
We do indead have everything you mentioned, however there are a few thing to keep in mind.
Shakers are very rare. Ones you can feel at least.
All of those other natural disasters are fairly rare to but only effect high income areas so if you are one of the great unwashed masses you don't have to worry about them.
Few people die as a result of these things.
Compare the number of deaths from all these forces in CA during the last 10 years with that of just the number of people who died form just one of any of the following things people deal with on the east coast:
blizards, frost, cold snaps, heat waves, floods (we loose a building but back east they loose towns), huricains, and tornados.
You are far safer on the west coast than the east. When a natural disaster hits us we look around make sure everything is in check and get on with our lives. Back east they have to hunt down their roof but first have to travel a few miles or blocks to find their car.
Here in San Diego the weather men joke about job security on the air. They could prerecord the forcasts a week in advance and no one would know.
"early morning low clowds clear by noon, 72 the day high and 56 the evening low."
Its like that all the time. Every day.
The number one problem with living here is not desasters but cost of living.
Lets see, a few hundred refunds of $5 a peice which the service contract does not require, OR the knowledge that you will only loose a handfull of customres because broadband is a monoply.
Oh an option number 3: Be a pissed off customer and complain you want your $5 in this time of economic uncertanty for broadband companies and if enough other people do it the company is unable to pay its bills and you are left with no service at all.
Lets just say that when my nntp connection goes down with @home for a few hours each month I do not call demanding a refund.
Attention person who modded parent -1.
Did you bother to click on the geocity link?
It _is_ a goat link.
If you are going to mod down someone for giving a heads up on a goat link then you should mod the goat link as well!
People like you are the reason most nations have a representative democracy. If people got to chose what their tax dollars where spent on then we would have no infrastructure* or defense**.
But, since we do get a say in who we elect to make these decisions, if you are pissed that your money got spent on something that you don't like then you can vote them out.
It's times like this I am glad I use a txt browser.
I never have to deal with any of the following:
pop-ups
pop-unders
banners
200k flash pages
java madness
half page ad boxes
And none of that distracting pr0n.
It has its down sides but over all its faster and more efficiant than putting up with all of those things.
I have been pondering what it would take to make a indapendant non corp net for a bit now. All I can see is major implamentation problems.
First we must replace the IP proticals with something more secure and expandable
Second, net hardware may be cheap but unless we where to implament a p2pnet we would need somewhere to connect to localy. The problems of depending on a total p2p based network are plenty odvious to anyone with a cable net connection trying to download a mp3 from someone who has a 14.4 connection.
Third killer apps are needed. Chicken != Egg
Forth a configuration file that says app foo should use TCP/IP and app bar should use XYZ/AB. A bit simplified but you get the idea.
Fifth, a rag tag fugitive fleat of standerds.
Sixth, government intervention and "Protecting the children"
Thats what I just came up with off the top of my head. It would be very nice to see such a thing take off but I doubt that it will happen.
All of these obsticals where overcome the first time we built the net so it can be done again.
Then again it was done again with the Internet2 but thats not for public use.
Also remember that the original net was in 1995-1997 the Information Super Highway. Then it turned into e-business. It was not invissioned as a shoping mall but as a library. You can not take a rouge net with no central authority and keep the corp world out of it.
Emacs has a differant way of releasing new versions than most OSS projects. Go read some of the threads in gnu.emacs.help about the release of v21 in order to see how it all works. The source has not been released yet. But a small group of developers have it. I did eventualy find it but it took finding one of them to get it.
I have delt with this problem a number of times.
Try searching for a "warez"* copy of gnu emacs 21.
You will get a million newsgroup mirrors. you will get thousands of results for emacs 20 that happen to have "21" in the url.
to get rid of some of these issues includeing rpms it helps if you use the logical nots
foo-bar tar gz -rpm -re -re: -from:
remember that google will only let you include more than 10 words on your search so go down to the bottem search box if you need to an "search within results"
*so named because its not released yet but does exist. Nothing like living in a world where free software is pirated.
Its been done with a commercial company before. Slackware did it when they got the boot from walnut creek. The differance here is that slackware always made a profit and was looking for money to get them through the transistion. Let me repeat that: Slackware made profit.
Not revinu but profit. Not chapter 11 but homeless. There is a big differance here.
Some have called that differance a "sustainable buisness model."
Disclosure #1: The only "game" I have on my computer is banner.

I don't mind if there are trojans nad virii for linux as long as they are GPLed and Open Source.
I'm sorry but i felt it had to be said even if I loose karma

Can some one tell how bad the digital divide was before the information age?
Needless to say I am really happy that since the information age is here we can fix this problem.
