  1. Buy your own mac building kit! Only $10K! Some assembly required.

  2. That's the point, I have to have OSX for iOS development. Otherwise I would never consider making a mac my development machine.

  3. As a matter of fact I am. I tried emacs for months but the control keys just didn't feel right to me.

  4. So ctrl-e goes to end of line, but command-shift-rightarrow selects to end of line. Yeah that's not confusing at all.

  5. I was going to do the third party thing but I was kind of afraid that it wouldn't be user replaceable in these new models, or Apple would refuse to support me or claim my warranty is void.

  6. Yeah well I have to buy one anyway so I might as well so that.

  7. Has never worked for me, don't know why.

  8. Doesn't work in xcode

  9. I know that, but ctrl-shift-e doesn't select to end of line. I've looked for a substitute but was unable to find one.

  10. I've always had a Thinkpad, and they have always had them yes.

  11. But then I try to ctrl-shift-end to select to the end of the line and that won't work, so it's back to the touchpad. There are a lot of little things like this and I find that it interrupts my work.

  12. Except that OSX isn't made for people who need to use the keyboard. Everything seems to requre the touchpad. I prefer linux for that kind of work. OSX is fine for reading email and browsing the web.

  13. Yeah these are only 4 days old.. so cut me some slack.

  14. Yeah, of course then the fact that the base 15" model only comes with a 256Gb drive becomes a problem quickly but I thought of doing that. I do web and Android development in linux and I'm concerned how the VM might impact compile time.

  15. I did googling and couldn't really find anything.. Well in that case that sucks. I'll have a $3K+ machine that I won't be able to use for anything but xcode. Maybe I should scale back the model that I'm getting.

  16. I'm about to buy a 15" MacBook pro because I have to and I need to dual boot linux. Does anyone know if the new touch strip will work with linux?

Apples to oranges. Seatbelts are a passive preventative measure. They cannot create accidents. Autopilot is an active measure that has created accidents yet wants to become more active.

Hey I guess if the Tesla customer signs on for it then fine, but I wouldn't be comfortable with it.

They also sue to recover unnecessary costs, and a incorrectly behaving ai will be a cost they will want to recover.

  22. I was thinking that it must be a fairly simple algorithm to start at the beginning email and just walk the entire tree and delete everything. Or sense that it is happening in the first place.

  23. You think insurance companies are going to be happy paying for a machine error? If anything automated car companies should be more afraid of insurance companies because they have the money to back lawsuits. If the automated car company has its own insurance and it is worked into the cost of the car then fine, then I don't pay for insurance and it is all between them and their insurers and I get a big settlement from them if anything happens. For a fully automated car, we will just be paying to insure the property of the vehicle because we are not liable for what it does. If it kills my child, I will get paid for the property but not compensated for the death of my child, so I will have no choice but to sue to automaker.

It's not about technology getting cheaper, it's about the willingness of car companies to pass that on to the consumer once they put it in their vehicles. Technically the entertainment system in my van should have cost $200 but I paid $2000 for it.

Highway buses maybe. Hard to tell whether the accidents tend to occur in places that Autopilot would work.
