Yes, because you must have broadband, it's an essential right not to have at least two broadband providers to choose from. Forgive me, I'm just venting, still no broadband at all in what equates to Mayberry, Michigan.
A pen did that much damage? Wow. I dropped an IRON, which was also full of water onto the top of my closed Gateway solo 9300 laptop a few months after I purchased it, it's been over a year now and still no dead/stuck pixels. I guess maybe I'm just lucky? The iron did no damage other than cracking the plastic on the back of the lcd screen, luckily the water didn't go anywhere (but it did make the iron heavier).
The Government does not, however, accept the view - asserted by some respondents - that Open Source software is threatened by the existing extent of patentability. This seems to fly in the face of the facts, notably that during the last decade Open Source software has flourished.
Definatly an interesting bit there, seeing as how many people would like to argue that any software patent is harmful. At least it points out that "Open Source software has flourished".
You would just end up with idiots trying to get the "Bottom Post" on all the new stories. Moderation might just be a better idea, hopefully Rob implements some decent form of it in the next major/. update.
If you really don't enjoy the spoofs/parodies, then simply don't watch them. You seem to be rather upset ("It's just pathetic"), and I don't see why you would upset yourself purposly by watching these parodies.
If you're really that concerned about it, as the Rob's post on the front page says, you can just disable all comments. You wouldn't have to deal with any of the "annoyances(sp?)" that you listed, try it sometime.
I could be wrong here, but I'm getting basically the same response times from triton, and the 'new' server at.76. Maybe the problem with the load isn't from the lack of hardware, but from a lack of bandwidth? It could also be caused by some code/information bloat on the server, which is simply transfered over to the new server. I don't think Linux is the problem, so I don't need the FreeBSD advocates after me.
Once we start getting closer to December 31, 1999 the only thing you'll be hearing about from the media is about y2k, unfortunatly. "My toaster might not brown the bread correctly because of y2k, so I'm going to take all my money out of the bank, and spend it on 5 years worth of food and supplies to go along with the bomb shelter in the backyard":)
The Ice Penguin at MTU looks a little 'wide' (not fat like he should be, heh), but then again, it's snow/ice, and from my experiences with MTU, I really doubt the person(s) making that were totally 'there' when they were doing it:) Still looks good though, kudos to them.
I use samba at home for our network, works out really well. I am still using version 1.9.18p8, but I'll switch to 2.x once I've got the time, as for right now, what I have works:) I can't seem to get public access to work on some directories, even though they are set to public = yes (it keeps asking for a username/password), but I'm sure that's an error on my part, not a problem with samba.
I would definatly use UPS/FedEx for any kind of packages (not letters though, email there). I've never had any packages get lost or delayed through UPS or FedEx, but a large portion of my USPS mail never makes it here, or makes it here over a week late.
This could actually be useful for people with ISPs that place strong limits on the size of their mailbox. Most of the ISPs in my area only give users 1MB for mail space, at least with this place you can have 3MB. But other than this I don't see much of a point to this, but hey, it's better than some other sites that could have been created based with the iMac in mind.
Excuse me, I meant "minor", not "small" in the previous posting, but it still conveys the same message. Also notice the department the message came from: "blatent-spoilers-and-rumors dept."
If you really didn't want any spoilers, I would suggest you be careful reading anything about it then. Especially avoid it when the words small spoiler are in bold. If you managed to miss that while 'skimming' the main page, then I would suggest you look about more carefully for bold words next time.
You don't research things before you say them do you? Check out psemu.com, then make a factually correct post. As for the G3 vs. PII statement, don't go around trying to start flame wars, to each his/her own.
Bravo! Quality work troll! What's really freaky is 'Stan' was playing when I started to read your comment, heh.

My ICQ # (UIN) is in the low 300,000 and I've yet to receive any kind of spam from ICQ.

Seems to be working perfectly now, maybe it's been fixed, or it's just local to you?

They must think the administrators there are some kind of gods if they can watch over all the content on 30,000 sites. That's just crazy. Hopefully this ruling will be reversed, I just can't see how this is 'right', then again, not everything is 'right' either. This is like saying that Rob would be responsible for all the posts on /., which I'm sure is why we have that little ' All trademarks and copyrights on this page are owned by their respective companies. Comments are owned by the Poster. The Rest © 1997-99 Rob Malda.' disclaimer on the bottom of every page, sigh.

Glad to see slack finally got it's own site, something besides an 'offical FTP archive' that is :)

Nice article, was a good read. I have to be a bit wary of the stats, but even if they are incorrect, it still gives some nice historical background.
