  2. 3D Acceleration? on XFree86 3.3.3.1 includes Riva TNT >OPEN SOURCE code · · Score: 1

Anyone that supports Open Source and has a TNT probably cares. I'm glad I'm now not stuck with some code that's impossible to fix.

  3. whitehouse.com on Yahoo threatens legal action against Yahooka.com · · Score: 1

"Another site using the name of the residence of the President of the United States provided pornographic material." Why couldn't they just say whitehouse.com? They don't have to link it or anything, but trying to 'hide' the name like that makes it seem like they think their readers are stupid.

  4. Hopefully on Faster Encryption Algorithm Found By 16 Year Old Girl · · Score: 1

I hope this is really something that's true, and not just crap. If it's true, it might actually be something useful, but the government will probably rape it anyways if it is.

Just another lost for the people, and a win for the big corps. Hopefully people will fight this, and there will be some chance that it will be changed/overturned.

If Sun open-sources java, and walks about with Netscape's software, then they would have a big peice of the commercial open-source software "puzzle". Hopefully they don't screw it up, this could be a big chance.

  7. Mice & Touchscreens on Ask Slashdot: What Touch Screen Support is Available in X? · · Score: 1

My experience with touchscreens is the same, just unplug the mouse, plug in the touchscreen, and away you go, pretty slick. I've only ever used one touchscreen on a PC though, so don't get all over me if not all are like this. :)

  8. Ports on Heretic/Hexen Source Code Release · · Score: 1

Hopefully somebody will port this over to Linux/BSD, and do some kind of OpenGL port. GLDoom is very nice. I have to agree with the poster above that integrating Heretic/Hexen into GLDoom to have basically a pak player, would be awesome.

Every PC in my high-school is going to have one of those, if of course I could pay for them, and get them to install Linux + WP on the machines (not happening withing my or my childrens lifetimes). But I'm definatly going to be picking up some of those stickers for all the PCs I own, and even some that I don't, heh.

  10. Sounds great on Dell Officially Supporting Linux? · · Score: 1

Even more support for Linux in the commercial world, it just keeps getting better. :) It would be nice to be able to have a huge vendor/distributor like Dell for Linux. Hopefully this will increase some ITs awareness on Linux.

  11. Military service + college on Should Geeks Skip College? · · Score: 1

Another option everyone seems to have skipped is signing up for some type of military service, getting 1.5-2.0 years of schooling while in the service, and then finishing up college at a respected school when you get out of the service, with everything paid for. I for example am joining the United States Marine Corps, with an MOS (job) in the computer programming/network systems field(s). I will get about 1.5 years of CS schooling while in the service, at a 'respectful' school, and also serve my country. I really don't have to worry about dying (god forbid), since they are spending so much to teach me, I will be one of the last to be sent of if we had some type of major war/conflict. After I have put in my four years of service, I will go to a respected college of my choice to finish up the rest of my CS degree, with it all paid for. Not a bad deal to me IMHO.
