    You ought to be able to "preset" some of this EXIF type metadata before shooting on a digital camera. Like, at a wedding, key in "Sally's Wedding 2004" and that gets metaed into the image.

    Not good for the one-off snap, but good for a run of Xmas, wedding, ski trip, etc.

    Yeah! Har har! That's almost as funny as when the connection to a Slashdotted PHP/mySQL combo goes south and it prints a database connection error all over the screen except that it's not really funny because PHP/mySQL is open source and not the devil Microsoft.

    Again, lots of legit reasons to criticise MS... this ain't one of them (I think even BillyG would say that Access ain't ready for the /. effect).

    ... AFAIK, Microsoft files patents almost exclusively for defensive purposes. Look at their patent history. Not much in the way of patent enforcement. Take CSS for example.

    ...already supports this (you most often see it in a free search engine called Webinator). It's the search db behind Dogpile, some (all?) of Ebay, parts of ZDNet, and a whole bunch of other stuff. Not cheap by any stretch but solid.

    Yeah, because any Linux box could have handled the fucking ass kicking that massive simultaneous connections from users downloading large screenshots generates. Also, no doubt the available bandwidth for that server is not sufficient simply because it's Windows.

    Windows Script Host does this already. You can script in any language compatible with WSH, which includes things like VBS, C-Script (whatever the hell that is), Perl, Python, JScript, etc.
