  1. Evil Dead 4 on Ask Bruce Campbell Anything... · · Score: 0, Redundant

I realize that this question gets asked occasionally, but we ever see a fourth installment of the great Evil Dead series?

I would absolutely love a new film which pics up where 2 left off.

    Thanks,
    Loomis

  2. Very interesting on Symphony For Dot Matrix Printers · · Score: 1

Hmmmm. I just squeaked in right before the server seemed to bow to the traffic. I did manage to get the three mp3's however. Very interesting stuff. I wonder how these things are controled and synchronized and all that? Unfortunately, I couln't grab the documentary quicktime clip or get and pictures to load.

  3. Like I said B4, Metallica only hurts themselves on Metallica's "Justice" And Napster · · Score: 1

There is little money in CD sales, as opposed to concert tickets. I know, I've done some promting work. Anyway, mp3's create fans, just as the radio does. Increased fans = increased concert attendance. We must remember that the fans are the ones with the mp3's. Therefore, Metallica is screwing themselves.

  4. And the Mach 5 is safe-looking??? on Speed Racer's Mach 5 Becomes Reality · · Score: 4

"Speed Racer's real Mach 5 racecar has been built to promote a nation-wide automotive safety campaign"

This cracks me up. Recall the the Mach 5 if you will, with its three projectile-looking front missles, difficult to see headlights, lack of roof, and other entirely unsafe, and un-roadworthy characteristics.

I don't know about you, but I certainly don't want to send my children this mixed message at the local safety meeting where the car is appearing:

"This Mach 5 promotes safety son."

"But daddy, it's a fiberglass kit that couldn't pass any collision test in the world. It has no reinforced frame, airbags, or other 20th century safety requirements."

"Ah...(pause)...(silence)...Uh...whatta ya say we get some ice cream son?"

  5. Congrats Metallica. You just lost a big spender! on Napster, Gnutella, Bans, Lawsuits And More · · Score: 1

Man. Can you believe it? Metallica sued Napster:

("From a business standpoint, this is about piracy -- aka taking something that doesn't belong to you -- and that is morally and legally wrong.")

Well Mr Lars, I've got news for you. I bought Killem All. I bought Ride the Lightning. I bought Master of Puppets, and I bought the rest too. AND, I bought the albums, the tapes, the import 12"s, the picture disks, the concert tickets, the T-shirts, and the CD's. Hell I saw Cliff Burton before he died even, in an age when most "Metallica fans" would say "who?". Well guess what. No more buddy. You can kiss my ass Lars-sell out- Ulrich.

You can't burn the fans like the this and expect to go unscathed. Ya, know, I may have some mp3's, but I buy the CD's if I like the music. And I buy concert tickets and vinyl and...aww you get the point. ANd I use napster for a hell of a lot of legal file distrubution as well. You gonna shut down Xerox for someone making illegal photocopies of a book? If so you stifle technology my friend. Lars Ulrich- sell out to the record executives and a threat to technology. Fire up the encoders and let those MP3's fly!

  6. Oh No Here Comes the Subliminals on Battlefield Earth · · Score: 2

Isn't it odd that the battlefieldearth.com site makes no mention of Scientology in L Ron Hubbard's Bio?

And isn't it weird that Travolta said at roughcut.com:

Interviewer: "Would you say your religious beliefs are influencing your creative work?"

Travolta: "Oh, no. I should make that very clear. In 1937, L. Ron Hubbard was a pulp, sci-fi fantasy writer. He financed Scientology and Dynamics through his writings. . . So, you're talking about a whole other area that has nothing to do with Scientology."

Sure John. Remember, Scientology is a dangerous cult. And no, I am not some crazed conspiracy theorist. Always read http://www.xenu.net/ if you need anti Scientology FAQs or info. Loomis

  7. I like Chuck D but... on Chuck D Gives Props To Napster · · Score: 1

I like Chuck D. But this article refers to him as a "high-profile" artist, and I have some problems with that. Chuck done anything of real excellence since Fear of a Black Planet back in 1990. That's over a DECADE ago folks. Sure, one could argue that Apocalyse 91 or 1996's Mistachuck were OK, but still, we're talking a "high-profile" artist. High-profile carries a connotation of "most people would recognize him on the street immediately," and Chuck D is definately not that to more than 20% of the population. Mick Jagger, for example, is what I consider to be high-profile. Not that I'm a Stones fan, but you get my point. Thanks, Loomis

  8. Worst software I have ever used on Netscape 6 Preview Release · · Score: 1

Wow. I am amazed that they even bother to release this hunk of garbage. Wasn't relase 13 or 14 more stable than this? Oh my God. I'm switching back to Opera.

  9. Oh that poor Atari 800 :( on Quickielanche · · Score: 1

Oh I feel so bad for that Atari 800. Now the poor little guy is going to get Slashdotted, thus destroyed by too many hits. I'm sure he can only handle a couple of hits at a time. While I enjoy Slashdot completely, I don't know if I agree with purposely reporting a story that will, without a doubt, cripple a timid and vulnerable piece of hardware. I feel bad for the little guy.

  10. Questions about Beam-it m3u files and security on RIAA Sues MP3.com · · Score: 1

I'm not sure if this has been covered already, so forgive me if it has. Here goes: Today I installed Beam-it, and uploaded my info which stated that I had one cd. I then went to the my.mp3.com website and saw my info with my cd. I then clicked on one of my songs and it was streamed to me. Somewhere in this process I was sent an nameofmysong.m3u file. I renamed this to nameofmysong.txt, and opened it in a text editor. It contained something like this:

    http://downloads.mp3.com/AAIBBBLGvTGwGAwARib21iwgx tdXNpY21hb0qEO9QYo43TZTSqYC1lSUHsDPBJA-- /virtual_machine.mp3

So, I copied this info into my browser and downloaded the whole mp3. It got sent to my windows temp directory by default.

So here's my question: I sent this url to my buddy, just to see if he could get the mp3 as well, and sure enough, he downloaded it as well! So what's to stop everyone from doing this? He doesn't have the cd, but how would anyone know that he's not me on another computer or something? Or even if that doesn't make sense, does all of that encryted stuff in the address do anything like track how many times I download this song from various IP addresses? It seems like Beam-it is very open to piracy. Am I correct? Keep in mind I'm not a computer expert, and this is my very first post here.

    Thank you
    Loomis
