I'm curious... At this point do we just expect everything to be 100% free? Or do we think money fairies give companies the capital to pay for bandwidth and processing power?
First level is to be able to get the computer to do what you want. If you can do that, you have a career as a programmer...... The next step is writing flexible software.
I would beg to differ on step two.
Step two would be understanding *why* the computer did what you wanted/ Most developers I have worked with do not understand how a computer actually works. It's a magical black box to them.
I seriously doubt these kids (or even the teachers) *understand* computers. They know how to use them, check e-mail, tweet, instragram and update facebook. That's about it.
With insecurity by default, what's to stop someone from walking up to a door with a small power screwdriver, pulling a battery, and walking into your room in about the same time as it takes you to swipe a card and get in?
If you do have a "debate" you generally have to enter into it with the understanding that no matter what you say, you will be wrong. Any logic, reason or science will fall upon the deaf ears of "faith".
It's worth recalling that that whole "man on the moon" endeavour, and other space missions, have gotten messed up (some more than others) because of different engineering teams using US Standard AND Metric units. Had they just used Metric like ALMOST EVERYONE ELSE, there'd be less hassle.
Because everyone else has been so successful with going to the moon?

'zone of lawlessness'
'zone of freedom' - fixed that for you.

C makes it easy to shoot yourself in the foot; C++ makes it harder, but when you do it blows your whole leg off.

Sounds like a case of damned if you do, damned if you don't.

if these used a second 'y'. Rypetyde.
I can't figure out if this is better or worse than being labeled racist.
Just implement a stop and frisk before leaving work. Tools found.
They (government) do this to the people they fear most. Hackers, political dissidents, free thinkers and non-lemmings.
Untrue.
I went for over 15 years without eating meat or eggs. I did not get sick when I started again.

Wild guess: A small power screwdriver?
If you haven't had any problems you aren't trying hard enough.
If you haven't had any problems you are lying.
Fixed that for you.
I think many Gay people would disagree with you (Which would include all that I personally know).
Just as many people who are born predisposed/with depression would disagree with you.
You don't wake up one day and decide these things.
Just like you didn't decide to be straight.
If it's nature or nurture doesn't matter, either way it's not a decision.
But considering just how straight white male oriented the tech industry is, it's good to point out that occasionally we have other possibilities.
Tim Cook isn't a white male?
It truly won't be an issue when the tech industry is more aligned with the general population. We're not there yet.
Why would it need to be aligned to any population?
"I'm proud to be (insert ethnicity/color/sexual preference)".
You don't often hear of people that aren't "proud" of those things.
Last I checked pride comes from something one achieves rather than something someone is born with/as.
After this gem I learned to > /dev/null anything authored by him
Are we sure this wasn't a Free hotspot only for Al-Quida Terror Network members?

what is the difference when Christians insist creationism be taught in schools as if there was as much evidence for it as evolution?
You get to live.

I'm sure that those other 42 countries made it to the moon far sooner than the U.S. did. Oh wait.
I'm quite happy being incapable of using the metric system but being a part of an extremely capable and pioneering country. Thanks.
You are assuming that the Valet speaks and or reads english.
