  1. Chrome OS = Posix + Google Gears on Google Announces Chrome OS, For Release Mid-2010 · · Score: 1

I don't mind the UI thing. I guess this is a movement to ease the implementation of web applications in the Google sense, I mean, Google Apps.

This could yield a new "write()" function with an URL instead a FileID and something like that. Bye bye XX century, hello (XXI century) world

If so, those are really good news.

  2. Re:This is why the IT department is always cut fir on Ideal, and Actual, IT Performance Metrics? · · Score: 1

The good metric for any service (IT or not) someone provides is:

"Full costs / Best external alternative full costs" (less than 1 is better)

Hey you forgot quality!!! We do it far much better than others!!!

Yeah, sure... I mean "external ALTERNATIVE full costs" that is: full detailed acceptance of current service level agreements (even currently non paid ones).

When external provider agrees to do exactly the same service, price uses to raise even higher than internal actual costs. Don't forget they are a business too, and they have to earn some money. Their commercial margin plus the change expenses should be the leap among numerator and denominator.

External service survey is not something to be scard of. We should be the ones to push for periodic checkings to know how good or bad we are.

  3. Re:vaccine even possible? on Steps Toward a Universal Flu Vaccine · · Score: 1

There's another clue to the "experts" failure: statistics.

In most of cases, flu don't takes you apart from natural selection but during a few days. So expontaneous mutations developing this antibody are not rewarded with reproduction far much than regular-ill-prone humans. Offspring probability is almost the same.

Or am I wrong? That could explain why I dated so much few when I was a teenager... I would have been wrongly blaming it on my nerd nature...

It's just the same as QR Code, but a little bit smaller (they claim it at their own description.

It is no new staff as it was announced two years ago . The current hype is the movement towards mobile scanning via embedded camera and, therefore, going mainstream.

The main disadventage is the optical range on light reflecting surfaces. Surrounding light colour (even colour temperature) could affect the accuracy. If you have ever yield upon a barcode scanner because of the reading failures, just prepare to get angry far much often.

We all nerd should be proud of it.

Let's hope he'll be the living proof that not always "In a Hierarchy Every Employee Tends to Rise to His Level of Incompetence". He's the energy boss, and US needs a brand new energy aproach.

That's one small step for mankind, one giant leap for nerds.

    Nerds of the world, unite!
