    While I agree that the orbital considerations are most important, I think you are way off on cost. Are you even aware of the components that go into these lasers? This system is amazingly complex. The budget right now is 2.4 billion dollars, surely that isn't mostly launch costs.

    This doubles the number of optical components and likely the cost.

    In the 80s I used to walk by one of the LIGO prototypes at Caltech. Gravity waves take a long time to transverse the universe, and it takes a long time for us to detect them!

  8. Really? Are you okay with a management person hitting on and otherwise making uncomfortable one of your coworkers with whom you might actually depend on and have a good working relationship?

  9. While I am all for equal rights for men and women it boggles me that there are those in denial that believe that there aren't (a minority) of men out there that behave this way. Trying to protect this kind of thing is counterproductive for the decent majority.

  10. Either way though it's an easy way to get a certain test rating, thought not particularly duplicitous. I only watch a few hours a week so it doesn't matter to me anyway :-)

    Yes but the social media aspect/web 2.0 is the shtick they are using to hoodwink investors into buying their shares. Once that's gone they are nothing.

    I bought an LG TV and it was in some kind of power saving mode when I first plugged it in. It looked awful so I turned it off....

    Now that you mention it I had a friend with vivaldi on his phone and he is definitively not a vivaldi person. Maybe they were trying to 'force' people to buy ringback tones?

  21. I was on Virgin Mobile for years as they were one of the first inexpensive pre-paid carriers. Over time they kind of boiled-frogged me to higher and higher (ie more expensive) tiers.

    Just switched to usmobile and am now paying 12$ month for similar service.

    If you think about it Uber is a kind of social media company pairing drivers with passengers. There will be no social interest when the cars are self driving- just a mundane and dreary business that would be easily implemented (by anyone) in software.

    As self driving cars become mainstream Uber will become irrelevant. Without the cost of driver involved cars will become simple utilities... and utilities have razor thin margins.
